About me:
Founded in 1975, New Langton Arts’ mission is to cultivate experimental and innovative contemporary artworks in visual and media arts, performance, literature, music, and interdisciplinary projects while encouraging broad public engagement with, and access to, the art of our times. Langton has fore-grounded artists at early and pivotal points in their careers—Barbara Kruger in the literature program (1977); a residency by Allan Kaprow and Martha Rosler (1980); Charles Ray’s performance installation (1985); and Olafur Eliasson’s first show in the US (1996). Langton also has a history of presenting survey shows of Bay Area artists who have been overlooked including the 1999 posthumous survey show of Jim Pomeroy, and the more recent 2005 show, Trust Me, covering 30 years of the work of San Francisco new genres artist Tony Labat. All of the artists listed on this page at one time performed at New Langton Arts!
