Reaching out because I don’t want anyone, anywhere, anymore, to feel: "I am the only one"..... finding another Asian bipolar lesbian (call me, we'll party)..... standing really close to the peephole..... embracing my MYnority identities..... giving in to dust..... seeking my "bee charmer"..... ebbing because everyone’s flowing..... answering rhetorical questions..... being quirkyalone..... documenting my life in quotes..... bemoaning the fact that when you spin the color wheel really fast, you see white..... writing on unlined paper..... mocking normal people..... speaking my mind via t-shirts..... insisting that "procrastinating" and "prolonging life" have the same Latin root..... talking with my hands and face and body..... admitting I need help building that "bridge over troubled water"..... waiting for flannel to come back in style (that's right, I said it!)..... believing in love at 1st sight, but unfortunately, not being the 1st to see her..... ignoring those staring because I’m angry while Asian..... wishing that when God goes on vacation, he’d leave an outgoing message with the # of someone covering his desk..... "turning Japanese"..... vibrating at a different frequency..... filing things under "X"..... watching the Mariska Hargitay Hour..... accepting my limitations and not singing even in the shower..... believing that seeing people in black and white is only okay in photographs..... "dancing about architecture"..... telling "the truth about Jane"..... advocating for the Interrupted Girl..... being one of the L words..... accepting invites to disco pool parties..... refusing to wear makeup, so you’re not shocked by my face when we wake up..... sticking a 4-leaf clover in the muzzle of #13..... holding everyone’s bags when they go on the roller coaster..... chopping onions the wrong way..... pulling the plank out of my own eye first..... burning the 5 a.m. oil..... considering learning to climb coconut trees just to be able to answer "yes" when asked..... forgetting that the edamame’s boiling on the stove..... recycling even toilet paper rolls, but providing intervention for those who pick from other people’s trash cans (u know who u are)..... running with foxes..... keeping "boys on the side"..... learning that capitalizing The first word of each line/Doesn’t make it a poem..... forgetting again that the edamame’s boiling on the stove..... judging those who judge..... earning toaster ovens..... not automatically joining a standing ovation just 'cause everyone’s rising..... wondering if Cobain actually found Nirvana by stopping the agony..... writing the next Gay Female Bipolar Asian musical-memoir..... knowing that Angelina Jolie’s work on behalf of the persecuted started way back in '96 with a movie called "Foxfire"..... identifying with the Slinky, not the ruler..... smelling my cats’ heads..... brewing comfort every morning..... putting forth that anything vanilla can use a dose of chocolate..... relying on Angels in America..... inquiring if it matters that I'M the one who filled the glass half full/empty..... taking off book dust jackets to find different designs..... sucking at math..... not loving you long time..... pointing out privilege..... throwing stones at glass houses... warning that, because religious right-wingers don’t believe in abortion, there’s a hell of a huge next generation of haters headed our way..... checking the "other" box on the census..... planting plans, but forgetting to water them..... "staying gold"..... "missing Saturn"..... thanking a little musical called “Next to Normal” ..... finding Alice Ripley..... Go(ogling) Jorja Fox..... thudding for Mary-Louise Parker..... remembering my Brokeback cowboy... wondering what van Gogh’s paintings would look like if he wasn’t touched with madness..... tipping taxi drivers well..... and, wondering if it's too late to ask if this parachute was made in China. ______________________________________________ More info on me: backwardpress.org - passingwithpoem.blogspot.com - nexttonormal.org - www.myspace.com/nexttonormal - quote-gatherer.blogspot.com. About me:

In 2000, I interviewed myself. Find the shenanigans here: http://backwardpress.org/lisak __________________________________________________________________________________ "Let the clouds roll in, let the rain arrive, let the storm rage on, the sun will survive; and you don't have to be happy at all to be happy you're alive." --Brian Yorkey, Tom Kitt for "Next to Normal", the musical

Alice Ripley - a special msg for "Next to Normal" FANS!....
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KfHPsB1hrO8

A quick shout out to all the N2N fans on the day that fans officially found out the news that N2N is going to Broadway! The quality isn't all that hot, but it's classic Alice: sweet + goof. The silly part was HER idea, I'd just like to say! (Feb. 17, 2009 by nexttonormal.org)

Next to Normal: "You Don't Know"

"DO YOU WAKE UP IN THE MORNING AND NEED HELP TO LIFT YOUR HEAD? DO YOU READ OBITUARIES AND FEEL JEALOUS OF THE DEAD?" Nov. 2008 - Jan. 2009 production in Virginia, starring Alice Ripley.

Alice Ripley singing "Don't Rain on My Parade"

my anthem for the year, 2008: ONE ROLL FOR THE WHOLE SHEBANG!
.

[title of show] A Way Back to Then
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3XtO1y899nU

another anthem (sung by Heidi Blickenstaff). The lyrics "AND WHEN YOU LEAST EXPECT, OPPORTUNITY WALKS THROUGH THE DOOR" already, emotionally, hit home. Then, I'm watching this montage that someone put together and, next thing I know, I'm staring at Alice Ripley's face to go along with those lyrics. Too perfect. She has opened doors for me that I didn't even know I had the right to enter. I am forever grateful. "And when you least expect, opportunity walks through the door and you suddenly connect to the thing that you forgot, that you've been looking for. And there you are, right in the middle of what you love, with the craziest of company! [Next to Normal] You're having a kick ass time and being who you wanted to be in this world!"

RENT: "One Song Glory"
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s85N5iABvyM

Adam Pascal. This is my favorite song from RENT, since 1995. It wasn't until I was diagnosed with a chronic illness myself (bipolar) that it became an anthem for my life. I could now relate to the lyrics, "ONE SONG BEFORE THE VIRUS TAKES HOLD." Fortunately, the anthem "Don't Rain on My Parade" (above) has come to speak even more strongly.

.

Wicked: Defying Gravity
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P5Z-1tcLwlc

Idina Menzel and Kristin Chenoweth. I just saw "Wicked" tonight for the first time (1/25/09) and found every little manic girl's perfect song! "YOU'RE HAVING DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR!" "I'M DEFYING GRAVITY AND YOU CAN'T PULL ME DOWN!"

Who I'd like to meet:

(Grammar geeks who know this should read WHOM I'd like to meet, then...) "Diana", "Dan", "Gabriel", and "Natalie Goodman", "Henry", "Dr. Fine" and "Dr. Madden"; and Brian Yorkey, Alice Ripley, Michael Greif, Tom Kitt, Anthony Rapp, Brian d'Arcy James, Aaron Tveit, Jennifer Damiano, Adam Chanler-Berat, Asa Somers, J. Robert Spencer, Louis Hobson, David Stone, and everyone else who has a hand in this N2N production, past, present, future (especially Markus and Katie who sorted the candy pills at the end of the show - grin!). Whether you know it or not, you are already in my life forever. I operate with love and gratitude to you all and I strive to live up to your integrity, raw talent, and bravery.
