From NewMexicoFilmCasting Yahoo! Group:

Are you ready for something different in the "city different"? Do you have an idea for kinetic sculpture or interactive installation art: do you make your own music or create your own performances? Would you rather make it than buy it, become the entertainment rather than be entertained? Then we are looking for visionaries like you and your inspired ideas.

re:Make It! is a three day festival showcasing the spirit of D.I.Y. culture. Hosted by Santa Fe Complex as part of Summer@The Complex, it will take place on August 7, from 5:00 – 10:0pm; Aug. 8, from noon – 10:00pm; and Aug. 9, from noon-8:00pm.

re:Make IT takes art off the wall to expand the possibilities of what art can be. We are seeking proposals from artists and art groups for large scale interactive, sculptural, kinetic, and installation works. We are also looking for submissions of original music and performers.

Please contact David Enoch at remake@sfcomplex. org

Screening of Shirley Clarke’s film, “The Connection”
hosted by Jo Edna Boldin, Casting Director

Date:
Saturday, June 27, 2009
Time:
2:00pm - 5:00pm
Location:
The Film Museum (formerly Jean Cocteau theater)
Street:
418 Montezuma Ave
City/Town:
Santa Fe, NM

Event: Screening of Shirley Clarke’s film, “The Connection”, followed by a Q&A with her daughter, Wendy Clarke

When: Saturday, June 27th

Time: 2-5 pm

Where: The Film Museum (formerly Jean Cocteau theater), 418 Montezuma Ave, Santa Fe 87501

Cost: Members FREE, Non-members $15.

Born in New York, Shirley Clarke (1919-1997) first started making films in the 1950’s. Many of her films were considered to be artistic breakthroughs, and Clarke was a major leader in the emergence of an American independent filmmaking movement in New York. She made low-budget black and white films that addressed relevant social issues. Clarke lectured frequently and spoke at theaters and museums.

"The Connection" is a 1961 black and white film directed by Shirley Clarke. The film is based on a play of the same name by Jack Gelber about heroin-addicted jazz musicians. Clarke’s editing style and cinematography lend a documentary-feel to the film, but it is actually carefully scripted. The film is one of the 100 Best Films in the National Film Archives and won the Critic's Award at Cannes in 1961.

Shirley's daughter, Wendy Clarke, is an artist and filmmaker and lives north of Taos in New Mexico. She will by present for a Q&A after the screening.

Light snacks will be provided.

ON THE BORDER is a short gay romantic comedy filming in August. 4-5 day shoot. There is pay.

SYNOPSIS: Two teenagers cross the border for a night of partying, but things don't turn out as expected. Alex just turned 16, and Gabriel, his best friend, want to celebrate in Mexico, where the two teens can be themselves. They're going to drink shots, hook up, all while in drag, to Gabriel's delight and Alex's surprise. But when Gabriel's car breaks down, the boys turn to Pancho, a Mexican cowboy who might or might not be gay, to get them across the border. Hijinx ensue.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN:

GABRIEL - 15-18, male, Latino-looking preferred, flamboyant, loud personality, a bad boy in pink. Risky and controversial but doesn't care what people think.

YOUNG GABRIEL - 8-13, same as above only younger.

ALEX - 15-18, Latino-looking preferred, conservative, preppy. This honor roll student is easily influenced, but also irritated by Gabriel. He's dying to come out, but terrified to do so.

YOUNG ALEX - 8-13, same as above only younger.

PANCHO - 25-35, male, Latino-looking preferred, a Mexican cowboy, macho on the outside but with a heart of gold. Just broke up with his "girlfriend. "

Jun 19 2009 5:09 PM

hello again!!!!!! I'M ENCOURAGING ALL ACTORS/SINGERS to think seriously about attending our Summer acting workshop. It is FREE TO ANY AND ALL actors who are serious about their work on stage. This working shop is a continuation of TNM's mission to nurture Latino talent in the performing arts.

ON JULY 27-31 -Monday to Friday 6:30 pm to 9:30 pm. at the National Hispanic Cultural Center: ACTOR / TEACHER, JOSE GARCIA DAVIS from Albuquerque and Los Angeles will present a workshop in method acting techniques of the latter years of Stanislavski and his protoge Vahktangov. He will also mix in physical acting exercises from Augusto Boal. Participants will use improvisation techniques to explore the internal life of a character using the entire instrument (the body), working the between-the-lines moments, the importance of reaction and the distinction between reaction and action - outgoing vs. incoming action/reaction, the use of unconscious body habits, and more. The workshop will dig intensively into the inner workings of the actor. Participants need to come ready to work intensively. They should wear comfortable clothes and shoes they can move in easily. The workshop will be physical as well as emotional. This workshop is intended to be for people who are serious about growing as actors. That said, I think it will be ideal for people who have been working or want to work with TNM.

Questions? Call, Salome at 362-6567 for more information in the evening between 7:00-9:00p.m.. or send a comment or message on our profile.Thank you all and I hope this finds you well~
