| Project Coordinator: Amanda Sisenstein (In the German pronounciation (although she recently found out she isn't German she is Hungarian) Amanda Zurshenstein AKA Much Loved Sweet Stone
She was a student at New Paltz who graduated in May 2005 with a duel major in Psychology and Music. Last year this fine lady was the project coordinator for the SUNY Purchase Chapter and although she loves and misses her people at Purchase she missed all of us and came to bring sexy back to social justice at New Paltz!
Board Representative: Alex Wojcik
This Senior has been active in the New Paltz Chapter since her Freshman year. She started as the Consumer Protection project leader but from her Sophomore year to present has been the project leader for Environmental Protection. In Spring of '05 she was a Recycling Intern, this was also the first year New Paltz had Earth Day! In Fall '05 she became a Board Member and after being MIA in Europe for a semester she is back working as our Board Rep. and Envronmental Protection project leader and part- time recycling coordinater for SUNY New Paltz! She wears many hats and they are all fabulous. If social justice and environmental justice hooked up Alex would be their love child.
Consumer Protection Project Leader: Malka Grundfest
Know as "fruitbat" by many she joined the Chapter when she transfered from SUNY Rockland her Junior year. She started with Voter Registration and was interviewed by a local TV station. She worked on Environmental protection the next semester, and has been working on consumer protection since. She conducted safety serveys and found the 3rd worst playground in NY! Notorious for her paper skills she is responsible for the large amounts of oragami we have acquired in the office and on our tables. UPDATE: Malka has now started the Oragami Club on campus, and is sharing an office with NYPIRG. Stop on by and find out how you can get involved.
Magic Man OF NYPIRG: Keishane Esturiene
Bachelor #2... We have been in love with this History major since he joined NYPIRG about 2 years ago. He is a very important part of Higher Education and loves comic books (specifically Spiderman). He wants to be called comic kid. He is always in the office being cute.
Lady of Higher Education Marian Whalen
The El Diablo of our Chapter (believed to mean "chicken fight" in Spanish) was encouraged by her RA to come to a General Interest meeting when she transfered from Pace University as a Sophomore. She got hooked and has been involved ever since! Her main project has always been Higher Ed. but she has also worked on Hunger and Homeless. She is the lovely lady who takes all the NYPIRG pictures!
UPDATE Marian has stepped down as the higher ed prject leader passing the torch onto jess maxwell in order to fnisish up her studies here at New Paltz.
Hunger and Homeless Project Leader: Rachel Slusher
Rachel is the sultry siron who can often be found walking the streets of Urban areas at the wee hours of the morning feeding and reaching out to the hungry and the homeless. She isn't the loudest in the bunch but when she speaks it packs a punch!
Higher Education Project Leader Jess Maxwell
Jess cut her teeth on the higher education project last year working under the tutilidge of Marian Whalen as the higher ed intern. She did just a great job that we asked her to be the project leader so that Marian Whalen could free her time to finish up and graduate.
Voter Mobilization Project Leaders:
Veronica Branca & Annie Hennesy
Annie is a duel major in Political Science and Buisness who got involved in voter mobilization last semester when she interned in the Voter Outreach Project.
Veronica is also a mojor in Political Science with a minor in Spanish who got involved in NYPIRG the same way!
Actually, funny story, Annie and Veronica both signed up for the internship in their Latin American Politics class last semester when one of their classmates made an announcement about the internship! OK, so maybe it's not that funny... but they are the dynamic duo of student voting power on campus! Yay!
Chapter members
Patrick Canino
Patrick Canino- the hilarious and clever host of Pirgatory, the NYPIRG radio show on the edge, joined the chapter last semester after the NYPIRG GIM and has since been indispensable. His great taste in music, crazy antics and higher energy has brought much vitality to NYPIRG activities and meetings.
Soribel Abreu
Soribel Abreu joined the chapter last semester as the rock star environmental intern. The more we talked about the environmental dangers facing the world today, the most passionate she has become about stopping global climate change by reducing green house gas emissions, improving recycling on campus and passing the bigger better bottle bill. She is a strong asset to the chapter and we will be sad to see her leave us next year when she graduates!
Sermania Arias
Sermania (Soribel's roommate) has also been an active chapter member since the general interest meeting in the fall. She is the most punctual and logistically minded member of the chapter and she brings fresh and creative ideas to NYPIRG meetings and activities. It has been recently discovered that she is also a great dancer!!
Christina "Chewy" Chiu
Chewy one of the newest and youngest active members of NYPIRG, found herself at the NYPIRG table in the SUB 1st floor lobby and became pirgalized. Within an hour and half she alone had gotten 12 students to write letters regarding carbon dioxide reduction.
Chewy so far, as earned the titles of Empress of Enlightenment and Tabling Rock Star.
Intern bios coming soon!!
