Mayor Jason West begins performing same sex marriages - 25 seme sex couples marry in the first day!

Mayor West charged with 19 counts of marrying people without a marriage license.

New York state judge Vincent Bradley issues a temporary restraining order barring West from performing any such ceremonies

Two Unitarian Universalist ministers who had been performing same-sex weddings in Mayor West's stead are charged with 13 counts of solemnizing a marriage without a license

Six Unitarian Universalist ministers — including one of the two ministers charged earlier — defy the District Attorney by performing 25 more same-sex marriage ceremonies in New Paltz

State of Massachusetts becomes the first U.S. state to hand out marriage licenses to same sex couples - as a result, interest in marriages in New Paltz begins to taper off.

A New Paltz Town Court Justice dismisses the charges against Mayor West, ruling that the district attorney had failed to show that the state had a legitimate interest in preventing the marriages, or that the law under which West was charged was constitutional. The district attorney said that he would appeal the ruling, and also indicated that he intended to continue forward with charges against the Unitarian Universalist ministers

1st Annual New Paltz pride March and Festival is held. Over 1,000 people attend event including over 30 academic, social, and political groups marching under their own banners. Also marching was Gilbert Baker, creator of the Rainbow Flag, the international symbol of gay and lesbian equality.

Fresh off the heels of New Paltz Pride, many volunteers grouped together to form the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center.
June 4, 2006
2nd Annual New Paltz Pride March and Festival is held. Crowd estimates showed 2,000 attendees. At this point in time, the Hudson Valley LGBTQ Center had moved into a temporary office space, and with the on-going membership drive, a goal of 500 members was met at the Festival.

The Hudson Valley LGBTQ Community Center offically opens it's doors at 300 Wall Street in Kingston, NY. Membership for the center continues to grow - total of over 800 members.

4th Annual New Paltz Pride March and Festival
The 4th Pride March and Festival is shaping up to be better than ever!
The March kicks off from New Paltz Middle School at 2PM and the Festival begins at 3. Several bands are scheduled to play from the Festival Stage and great vendors will offer food, drink and snacks to keep you going. In addition to the food and drink, health educators, community organizers, and wellness groups will provide information and education.
Following the Festival, the Party moves to Joe's East West for the Party After Pride as we dance into the night.
