About me: .:CHRISTIAN:.
First and foremost, I am a follower of Jesus Christ. When I say..."I am a Christian", I'm not shouting "I am saved", I'm whispering "I get lost! That is why I chose this way." When I say..."I am a Christian", I don't speak of this with pride. I'm confessing that I stumble and need someone to be my guide. When I say..."I am a Christian", I'm not bragging of success. I'm admitting I have failed and cannot ever pay the debt. When I say..."I am a Christian", I'm not claiming to be perfect, my flaws are too visible but God believes I'm worth it. When I say..."I am a Christian", I still feel the sting of pain I have my share of heartaches which is why I seek His name. When I say..."I am a Christian" I do not wish to judge. I have no authority. I only know I'm loved.
.:MARRIED:.
Speaking of being loved, God was gracious enough to bless me with the best friend anyone could ever ask for about six years ago. Russ and I have been incredibly close all of that time, even though 600 miles seperated us for over 3 years. In January, Russ moved back to Florida and we began dating... finally stepping over the "no, we aren't dating, we are just best friends" line. A few months later, he designed some large images and had them printed on canvas; incorporated in them was "Melissa Alexander, will you marry me?". They were hanging on the wall of his apartment when I came over that night. I have always known that Russ and I had something very special, and I am thrilled to say that this November I married my best friend!
.:DESIGNER/PHOTOGRAPHER:.
Professionally, my "career" began in a high school darkroom where I fell in love with the art of light: photography. As the digital era encroached, I maintained that digital was cheating and stealing the art from photography. As the industry changed, I was "forced" to go digital, and found art in photoshop and graphic design. My photography and design has taken me to places like France and India where I tend to shoot Henri Cartier Bresson-style images of the human condition.
I am currently working as the Graphic Designer/Director of Publications for my church (First Baptist Oviedo). Finally starting to feel like I'm settled in; it took a while, but things are going really well and I'm loving the people I work with.
.:DANCER:.
I've recently re-discovered a love for swing dancing. Back when Brian Setzer Orchestra and Cherry Poppin Daddies had some big hits in 1999-ish, I got into it a little, but unfortunately I hit the end of the craze and didn't know many people to dance with. I only went dancing about 5 times, but absolutely loved it. Seven years later I decided it was time to get back into the swing of things. I have been having the time of my life dancing and meeting some incredible people. If you ever want to check out the scene and hit the dance floor, let me know! Don't be intimidated... "it's just a dance" ;)
