Mysteriously formed under less than suspicious circumstances in a carpark at Knockanstockan independent music festival 2007, David Griffin, Mark O'Connor and Trevor Keogh after 3 months of relentless gigging and endless sessions found themselves fast becoming one of the hardest working bands in Dublin.
It's been a busy 2008 for New Secret Weapon, March brought them to Liverpool and London on 'Bands on the Run' along with the Murder of Crows and Hassle Merchants, ending the tour on St. Patrick's Day in the Cuban bar in Camden Market, where New Secret Weapon "tested the building's structural integrity..."(Connected Magazine) before returning home to play numerous college shows, protest marches, urban festivals and guerilla gigs..
Having received 'Demo of the Month' in July's Connected magazine, the band kicked off the summer festival season at Life in Galway, then celebrated a year of success and good times with an explosive performance, headlining Knockanstockan '08 and kept the momentum going through both Solas in August and Electric Picnic in September.
The lads have just returned from London where they played 4 epic shows in 3 days (12 Bar Club, Barfly, The Dublin Castle...) and with a busy schedule planned ahead with gigs, rehearsals, and upcoming studio work it's of little doubt the second year will be busier than the first...
NEW SECRET WEAPON- Interesting Irish band with a progressive twisty turny kinda sound and an originally pitched vocal like Edgar Brougton meets Cobain or something- but the music is a blues related downhome math rock grunge affair. With jerk n quirk experimental Beefhearty leanings too...Cream meets Deus?? A de- heavied Blue Cheer? Or almost a prog Kings of Leon!
