side note: speaking of dude ranches. are you aware that there is a subgenre of romance novels specifically about nurses? they emerged during and after world war II as women were entering the workforce and predominantly female professions became highly sexualized in such books. a related but somewhat "opposite" genre are the librarian romance novels, the difference being that the nurses were thought of as being sexually assertive "caregivers" and the librarian is constructed is the sexually repressed "bookworm." we have an extensive collection of nurse romance novels at the uwm special collections where i now work sorting through comic books, queer pulp fiction collections and other oddities, and "dude ranch nurse" is by far one of the best titles.
