Performing songwriters, start your songs. The Mountain Stage NewSong Contest is one of the nation’s premier showcases for singer-songwriters in all genres of music. A total of 12 finalists are selected to perform in the international contest finals, held in Charleston, West Viriginia's Cultural Center theater – the home venue of the internationally broadcast Mountain Stage radio and television show. All finalists attend the Mountain Stage show in Charleston, where one of the contest's five co-winners becomes a featured performer of the show.
Co-winners and other contest standouts will also be invited to participate in future NewSong productions in locations throughout the country, and will be candidates for future releases on the NewSong Recordings label. Non-winning contestants will also be considered for future “Mountain Stage” appearances.
The twelve finalists are selected as follows:
-One from each of the six (6) regional rounds
-Six from the general round – open to anyone, anywhere on the planet. Two of these six spots are reserved for those who submit before the Early Bird Deadline

The contest is open to all genres of music, reflecting the diversity of styles and performers on “Mountain Stage with Larry Groce,” now in its 26th year. The acclaimed show, heard on radio and TV around the globe, presents acts ranging from traditional roots, blues and country, to avant-garde rock, world beat, jazz and beyond. The show has featured more than two thousand artists since 1983. A short list of those who made their national radio debut on the program include R.E.M., Barenaked Ladies, Ryan Welch, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones, Alison Krauss and many other notable acts.
THE REGIONAL ROUNDS
Performing songwriters in states and regions below can enter songs in their respective Regional Rounds -- then 10 finalists from each round compete in live contests. This year, the live rounds were held online. Click here to take a look at the platform used for this new virtual round and to learn about the brand new "People's Choice Awards". The winner of each round advances to the international finals in Charleston, WV. Entry discounts for regional rounds are available to active members of qualifying songwriting organizations.
Contestants should designate the style of song they consider their entry to fit when entering tunes. The categories are: Rock & Blues, Americana, Folk, World, Christian, Country, Hip-Hop, Jazz, Pop/Alternative, Children's, Humor and Other/Open.
These concert productions, held at various locations across the country, feature the cream-of-the-crop of our NewSong alumni, including former contest winners, Academy standouts and label artists.

NEWSONG RECORDINGS
...is an innovative new record label created to showcase truly exceptional independent recordings by truly exceptional emerging artists.
Operated in partnership with the Mountain Stage NewSong Contest and the NewSong Academy, the mission of the label is to identify talented artists whom we discover through our events and community, and to then work closely with them to advance their career through the release of their records.
Our debut 2006 release is by Diana Jones (a former Mountain Stage NewSong Contest standout), entitled My Remembrance of You. It's full of timeless, original songs crafted from inspiration drawn deeply from the old-time well. The Chicago Tribune awarded it the 1 Country Album of the Year for 2006, and it has been included in nearly 20 'Best Of 2006' lists in the United States, the UK and Europe.
In time, NewSong Recordings aims to develop a portfolio of releases from artists who represent the diversity of genres we celebrate at NewSong, and that our partners at Mountain Stage have been celebrating for 25 years.

We receive a number of requests from artists for feedback on their original material, as well as guidance on how to navigate the music industry to make the most of their music careers.
We're happy to announce that we're now offering creative and career consultation on your material. These services consist of a one-on-one personal consultation with qualified, experienced music industry personnel who have carefully reviewed your material.
