New Speedway Boogie embodies the music and sprit of the legendary 60’s and 70’s Bay Area music scene. In the tradition of the Grateful Dead, Creedence Clearwater Revival, and Santana, the band skillfully blends high-energy classic rock with a funky, danceable beat.
New Speedway Boogie is a complete musical experience, featuring innovative interpretations of rock’s most distinctive all-time favorites alongside modern classics from the 80’s and 90’s as well as provocative original songs about life in modern America. The live show is a must see for all those who pray at the alter of Rock-n-Roll.
For over twenty five years, these veteran musicians have performed for thousands of rock’s faithful and in 2006 New Speedway Boogie (entered as “Uncle John’s Band”) were selected as one of eight finalists in the 2006 KFOX Last Band Standing contest.
Vocalist/guitarist Peter Donahue has led the notable San Jose bands The Fabulous Abu-Garcia Brothers, The Kings of Hilarity, and No Such Thing. Percussionist Donovan Dolojan is an alumnus of soul singer Rosie Gains’ popular group and has played with the likes of Malo and AGB. Bassist Dave Schumacher played and toured with the acclaimed San Jose bands The Social Club and The Sugarbombs. Guitarist Pat Roy has opened for the likes of Elvin Bishop and The Tubes. The big beat, drummer Jim Silva, has been actively playing with local bands in and around the Santa Cruz area since the 1970’s.
New Speedway Boogie has appeared at The Cats in Los Gatos, The King’s Head Pub in Campbell, The Brookdale Lodge in Boulder Creek, as well the Santa Cruz River Arts Festival, The Felton Covered Bridge Festival, and The San Mateo Italiana Street Fest. Just to name a few of the venues the band has excited audiences at over the last year.
