About me:
The 2009 Media Guide: Getting On the Air, Online & into Print is here! The complete guide to Chicago-area Media & Beyond, a great resource for non-profits and citizens, provides you with the essential tools to creating a plan, getting your story out, getting online and on air. What started as a 30-page guide has only got bigger and better over the years. Since last year’s edition over 100 media outlets and 650 individual contacts have been added, to the now, 300 page media guide. The 2009 Media Guide is also available in CD form. Order your media guide at www.newstips.org
The Community Media Workshop at Columbia College Chicago, is a nonprofit who helps other nonprofits get their stories told in the media.
We:
• hold workshops throughout the year to train nonprofit communicators on how to effectively reach the media, (via pitching/cold calls, or how to be a better spokersperson) Learn more & register here
• publish a media guide, or directory of all of the media outlets (including journalists & reporters full contact info) in the Chicagoland area and beyond. Learn more and purchase your copy of "Getting on the Air Online and Into Print" for 2008 - on sale! here
• have an annual conference in June - Making Media Connections - which brings hundreds of nonprofit people in the same room with reporters and journalists. This year's conference happened on June 11 &12. Check out pictures and post-conference materials here: http://communitymediaworkshop.org/mmc2008/
• the Studs Terkel Media Awards Benefit each year honors journalists and reporters who covers stories in their communities. This year's awards happened on April 9 at the Chicago Cultural Center. Find out who won, and view pictures here
• Have a blog! It's called the NP Communicator which is home to our Newstips. (Newstips was created for journalists looking for stories about people or groups who are making an impact in their communities). Check it out here: http://communitymediaworkshop.org/
