The History of New Thing Productions:
As a huge appreciator for improvised music, we have seen so many artists pass by Syracuse, NY because there wasn’t anyone in town that was creating opportunities for touring musicians in the realm of improvisation. Because of the geographical locale of Syracuse in relation to the C.I.M.P. studio in Redwood, NY (between Watertown and Canada) there were many musicians that drove right through the Salt City and on to places like Rochester, Buffalo, Cleveland, Chicago, NYC and abroad to perform their recorded works in front of an audience. So instead of waiting for someone to promote these shows here, I decided to start my own production company.
Our first show was on November 23rd 2002, and was held at the Westcott Community Center on Euclid Avenue. The people at the Westcott Community Center were very helpful in seeing our dream being realized. We were very excited to have Ras Moshe and the Music Now Quartet perform for the first show. The quartet consisted of Ras Moshe on saxophones, Matt Lavelle on trumpet, Matthew Heyner on acoustic bass, and Jackson Krall on drums. We have gone on to use other great venues in Syracuse like Jazz Central, Unitatarian Church on East Genesee Street, the Kind Coffee Company, Coffee Pavillion, TranSend space, SPARK Gallery, Syracuse University's Gifford Auditorium, La Cena Restaurant, Metropolis Underground, No Radio Records, and Lost Dog Cafe in Ithaca, and others.
Our main goal is to bring musical diversity to the city of Syracuse for everyone to enjoy. We hope you will come to experience new music.
