Hi! My name is Andreas Cavaco and i'd like to tell all of you the story of Newtimers.
We met in early 2003. I was recruited to be a leadsinger in a band that Tim was already a member of, he played the drums. Later on the same year we got to know each other better and i found out that Tim was a real good producer, so i asked him if he wanted to produce a track for my other constellation "The Fo'Shows" consisting of former Up Hygh members Pure P and Funkenteller and DJ Lastword (Sidewalk). Yes, you guessed right... I was a rapper back then. I started rapping back in the late 90's and really thought that rapping was my calling in life.
Tim's specialty and reason to live back then was making hiphop-beats so we teamed up and did a magnificent track together that ended up on the Fo'Shows album. J. Dilla was the common denominator for me and Tim when we started of making music together so we kept on for some years doing songs inspired by the man. So, back to the story... The summer of 2003 we decided to hook up in a studio in Stockholm to see if anything good came out of it, it did, the song "Manolito" was the first track we ever wrote and recorded and if you're lucky you'll get to hear it someday. We spend that summer in the studio together, sometimes just me and Tim and some days Salem Al Fakir came by to join the sessions. Fun times. We started to find each other in music, we liked exactly the same things and got hyped by the same harmonies...i mean all, from small to big, we liked it. Now, 2004 we isolated ourselves in the studio to really try to find what we wanted to do, find the essence of the collaboration and back then we thought we did find what we we're looking for. Late 2005 we felt that the time was right to form a band and try to show our music for the people willing to come to the venues to see us. We got together with some of the best musicians around and rehearsed like crazy, we did a celebrated show at Nalen shortly after. In the beginning of 2006 we got booked at the prestigious Lydmar Hotel and did a show with a friend of ours, producer and rapper Oddisee (US) we packed the place and did a show that people around us still are talking about, i guess that's a good thing...?! =) Shortly there after Newtimers split up, Newtimers was no more. I don't think we actually know what happened but it took us about 8 months to get back together to create something. In the winter of 2006 we decided that music without each others involvement was just plain stupid, we both felt that we could never find other writing partners that was as good as me and him we're together, that feeling still exists and now it's stronger that ever. Tim sent me some instrumental tracks that winter and i started writing and writing so we hooked up and started recording. That was the beginning of where we are now. We kept on writing and through the years we got into other things, not at all like the stuff we got inspired by before. We both started digging into our pasts, our first loves in music to find that we grew up listening to the same things. So through time we went from hiphop to soul to soul-ish pop to the music we're making today and we're loving every second. We've found our perfect match in music, what we really want to do and what's better to do it with than the best person i've ever worked with. I know i can speak for the both of us when i say, we're a musical match made in heaven.
So here we are, february going into march 2009, 6 years after we started.
Our vision is to rejuvenate all the music that we listened to as kids, the real music...written and played by hand and by love, hence the name Newtimers, playing with the works and getting inspired by the oldtimers and making it fresh.
