This Saint Petersburg, Florida based band commenced in 2004 when guitarist Jorge Ortega and drummer Mike Sowers became roommates through a mutual friend. Initially not knowing their musical chemistry, they became friends and eventually stumbled upon their mutual love for playing music. Although neither had any equipment at the time, they acquired gear and started to jam, like many other bands, in their garage.
The guys then came to the realization their musical chemistry was undeniable and called upon Jorge’s friend Mike Young, guitarist, to check out this new project. They started meeting for practices and before you knew it, the beginning workings of New Violation was formed. Their next endeavor was to start seeking out a bass player and vocalist.
First they tried out many different singers. Talented vocalist came and went, but not one fit the puzzle quite right - there was never that moment were things just locked together until, singer, Joey Rodriguez showed up at rehearsal.
Joey was a struggling solo artist, writing and arranging his own music, and was looking for a new venture to embark upon. Soon as his mouth opened for the first time, his voice put everyone at ease knowing the search for a singer was over. The band was one step closer to completion now having this unrefined talent aboard writing catch lines and phrases to the bands all ready appealing riffs. Luckily, Joey also played guitar/bass, and this closed the whole temporarily for a bass player.
The group then formulated a set, and started hitting local venues with their unbelievably catchy tunes. Performing regular shows at all major area venues allowed the group to grow, and find what they wanted the band to be. But, their search was still not over for that low end they always searched for to complete the package.
While playing a show, with another gifted group, Winä, their bass player Carmine Pocchia saw the potential talent in the band and asks to be their producer. Things came around full circle with this proposition as Carmine was the person to record their first demo as a two guitars, and drums band. One day while working on producing New Violation’s hit song “Burning,” Carmine got the news that his band Winä was ripping apart at the seams. Jorge then turned to him and asked him to complete the band and add the sound they always wanted in the rhythm section. Reluctant at first, Carmine’s band separating threw him in a tailspin. Although saddened by the break-up, his love for music continued on. Already knowing their talent, he then joined the New Violation everyone sees today.
This band became of those “in your face” pure hearted rock bands. Pulled from a wide pool of raw hard talent, these guys created a cohesive and melodic sound taunting you to sing along with every song. A New Violation show not only teases the ears, but the eyes as well. They perform a high energy, all out rocking show that will gets you up and moving out of your chair and onto your feet. With New Violation’s infectious sounds, they will definitely be one of those bands found soon in everyone’s IPod on repeat.
