About me:
NEW YORK NIGHT TRAIN IS:
1) the party machine of dynamic DJ/visionary promoter MR JONATHAN TOUBIN who is currently
changing the world one wild 45rpm rager at a time! Making life a little spicier by prompting folks to dance at rock shows, bars, art galleries, and other places that used to be no fun. And simultaneously offering
a higher quality/more unique MAXIMUM ROCK AND SOUL alternative to the “music” typically spun at discos, raves, loft parties, etc. While busy DJ-ing and throwing his trademark
HAPPENINGS and SOUL CLAP/DANCE-OFF parties around the globe alone and also featuring live musical acts like KING KHAN & THE BBQ/SHRINES, OH SEES, or QUINTRON & MS PUSSYCAT, or at festivals like PONDEROSA STOMP, FUN FUN FUN, POP MONTREAL, SLED ISLAND, NXNE, SXSW, CMJ, etc. When stuck in the core of the wormy apple, Mr Toubin can still be found:
* SUNDAY – TUESDAY: Hopefully resting, but how often does that happen? Seriously babies – he turned over 300 gigs last year and rarely gets a night off....
* WEDNESDAYS at MOTOR CITY BAR ("NEW YORK NIGHT TRAIN WEDNESDAY" - our first party and a downtown rock and roll tradition! Our only hang-out (though sometimes dance-party) w/special guests from across the NYC music community - a downtown subcultural "cheers"... if you will... Members of Butthole Surfers, Bad Seeds, Black Lips, etc have all turned guest DJ sets there and everybody from Jack White to Noel Gallagher to Scarlet Johanson have hung out there.)
* THURSDAYS at BEAUTY BAR BROOKLYN("BOOGALOO SHAMPOO" - all night 45rpm soul dancing relocated to this Bushwick location in June with awesome guest DJ legends like Fine Wine, Phast Phreddie, and Josh Styles when Mssr. Toubin's away)
* FRIDAYS at HOME SWEET HOME ("SHAKIN ALL OVER UNDER SIDEWAYS DOWN" - “maximum rock'n'soul” get-down aktion - past guest DJs include Ian Svenonius, Quintron, Calvin Johnson, Bad Seed Jim Sclavunos, blah bleh bleh blah bah blah,..)
* SATURDAYS S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y NIGHT! all over the place - but mostly at Mr. Toubin's home venue GLASSLANDS ("SOUL CLAP & DANCE-OFF" and other wild events...
* plus gigs 'round the globe half the month... Keep checking
NewYorkNightTrain.com for the skinny....
2) the record label of
KID CONGO POWERS, KID CONGO & THE PINK MONKEY BIRDS, GRAND MAL, VIVA L’AMERICAN DEATH RAY MUSIC, S-S-S-SPECTRES, WITCH HATS, STATIC STATIC, STALKERS, and more... Slowly peeling itself off the pavement....
3) the former NYC music webzine (check out the archives) and soon to be regularly updated DJ blog and vinyl guide (seriously... Soon!).
