The New York Philharmonic is by far the oldest symphony orchestra in the United States, and one of the oldest in the world. Founded in 1842 by a group of local musicians led by American-born Ureli Corelli Hill, the Orchestra currently plays some 180 concerts a year. On December 18, 2004, the Philharmonic gave its 14,000th concert — a milestone unmatched by any other orchestra in the world.
Since 1917 the Philharmonic has recorded nearly 2,000 albums; more than 500 recordings are currently available. In 2006 the Philharmonic became the first major orchestra to enter into an agreement to produce downloadable concerts on the DG Concerts label.
Bring your phone to the park! While you are there, text the word NYP followed by your selection 1 or 2 to 72648 (encore choices will be revealed at the event). All votes must be in by the end of intermission. Then sit back and enjoy the rest of the concert. The encore with the most votes will be heard at the end of the concert.
You're one of my all time favorite orchestras. Your sound is spectacular. Can't wait to hear you under the baton of the new music director Alan Gilbert!

Music, music and more music!!! Thank-you for joining forces in friendship. Maybe I might sing with you one day. that would be astounding. Thanks for all of your devoted years of amazing sounds!!
Thanks so much for the Add–and your friendship. We enjoyed your music very much. Thanks for sharing it with all of us. It's a pleasure having you among our friends!
We've just added two new blogs about Umano, plus four more new compositions, making ten on our space. We hope you and your friends visit us and enjoy our music, too.
We wake up every morning and play the music of the new MySpace friends who have arrived at our site during the night. It occurred to us that these friends (you are among them) are almost universally positive, whether they be novices or legends, and without regard to their station in life or the country they occupy.
Although it's not an original thought, it also occurred to us that we couldn’t hold a verbal conversation with most of these friends, but we have bridged that gap by expressing our art honestly with each other.
We all have been filling the world with our music and art, in the hope that our messages of love and human understanding will have an impact on the world at large.
What a gift and what an opportunity we have received from this technology!
Hello to whoever it is that manages the NY Phil's webpage - and I hope that you have a moment to visit my page and enjoy the peaceful music. Maybe one day, I'll get to hear it in the State theater! Best regards, Stan.
