Bio
NEW YORK PIANO QUARTET: METROPOLITAN OPERA MUSICIANS The New York Piano Quartet was founded by violinist Elmira Darvarova. The ensemble consists of Metropolitan Opera musicians Elmira Darvarova (violin, former MET Orchestra concertmaster), Ronald Carbone (viola), Samuel Magill (cello) and Linda Hall (piano, assistant conductor of the Metropolitan Opera). The group is been presented at major venues, such as Lincoln Center, the New York Chamber Music Festival, the Canaan Chamber Music Festival, Symphony Space, the Austrian Cultural Forum. The ensemble has presented important world and US premieres. The New York premiere performance of Charles-Marie Widor's Piano Quartet in A minor Op. 66, which was presented by the New York Piano Quartet in 2009 at the New York Chamber Music Festival, prompted the Fanfare Magazine to call it "…revelatory performance..…stunning…". In 2012 the New York Piano Quartet recorded two CDs for the Urlicht AudioVisual label, with works by Mahler, Korngold, Joseph Marx, Schnittke and several newly-commissioned piano quartets by contemporary composers. -
