    NexCyx [nex-ix] - a connection between varying personalities. NexCyx began in 2004 as a musical experiment on the University of West Indies campus in Barbados. Since then, it has evolved into a celebrated outfit, with a repertoire of original hit music, and a solid—and growing—fan base. The five personalities that form NexCyx today are as diverse as their stories are intriguing. The Barbadian pop band is an artistic mishmash of a self-taught pianist turned producer (André), a drumming prodigy (Chadd), an accidental bass guitarist (Kris), a one-woman dancer-singer-rapper (Mahalia) and a hardcore rocker (Russell). NexCyx exudes an unmistakable energy—it's fresh, upbeat and bold. In 2010, when they welcomed Chadd, drumming wonderchild, to their lineup, they dished out an extra serving of youthful swagger. Together, they're just what the music industry ordered, it seems. And the fans aren't complaining either. In under a decade, NexCyx has played at a range of venues throughout North America and the Caribbean region, including the Bequia Music Festival and two main events on the Netherlands Antilles island of St. Maarten: the Heineken Regatta and Childfest, an annual charity event with a high-profile following. They do this while holding down a demanding gig schedule in Barbados, where their singles are in heavy rotation at local stations. "Gossip Girl," released in 2009, became the band's breakout single and instantly landed as a fan favorite. Hits like "Queen," "On The Floor" and "Nightclub Superheroes" also followed, etching a place for NexCyx on the international music stage—and ushering in a new era of fandom. In 2011, a packed house for their first ever full-length concert, dubbed "5.28.11", signaled NexCyx' growing prominence; the media reports and reviews that followed were the icing on the cake. And there are other meaningful band experiences that stand out: opening for Erykah Badu and Angie Stone to wild applause, hopping on to the SXSW stage two years in a row, and performing to rave reviews at a concert headlined by Jamaican musical duo, Brick and Lace. There are plenty memorable moments when the band is off stage, too—especially when they're on tour. There are stories of leaving nightclubs on the back of a pickup truck, Russ' mysterious keeling over post-gig in St. Maarten and Chadd's mischievous jaunts to unspeakable places that don't always end well. It's these types of experiences that help define their inimitable musical flavor. In their words, if it were an icecream, it would be loaded with nuts (lots of them), chocolate, gummi worms and tequila—with a cherry on top. That said, there is a distinctive camaraderie that the band shares, which musical groups the world over struggle to achieve. Admittedly hard to brush aside when you've got goals as big as theirs: placement of NexCyx' tracks in movies, TV shows and video games; major concert gigs (on top of the Eiffel Tower, Madison Square Garden and the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL, to be precise); plus, an attractive distribution deal. And it's not that farfetched when their journey in music so far is considered. There's an MTV Artist of the Week accolade in their history already—and an Artist of the Month title from Rockwired.com. In 2010, they landed the "Band of the Year" title at the noted Barbados Music Awards. So what else should fans know about NexCyx as their career takes off even further?
