    The United States was founded on hope, optimism, and a commitment to freedom. We can once again become a beacon of hope for the world. To do that, we must reject the current policies of fear, suspicion, and preemptive war. It is time to jettison our illusions and fears and to transform age-old challenges with new thinking. This is the idea behind my proposal to establish a Department of Peace. This is the idea to make nonviolence an organizing principle at home and abroad and dedicate ourselves to peaceful coexistence, consensus building, disarmament, and respect for international treaties. Violence and war are not inevitable. Nonviolence and peace are inevitable.

    We can conceive of peace as not simply the absence of violence but the presence of the capacity for a higher evolution of human awareness, of respect, trust, and integrity. We can conceive of peace as a tool to tap the infinite capabilities of humanity to transform consciousness and conditions that impel or compel violence at a personal, group, or national level toward creating understanding, compassion, and love. We can bring forth new understandings where peace, not war, becomes inevitable. We can move from wars to end all wars to peace to end all wars.

    Citizens across the United States are now uniting in a great cause to establish a Department of Peace, seeking nothing less than the transformation of our society, to make nonviolence an organizing principle, to make war archaic through creating a paradigm shift in our culture for human development for economic and political justice and for violence control. Its work in violence control will be to support disarmament, treaties, peaceful coexistence and peaceful consensus building. Its focus on economic and political justice will examine and enhance resource distribution, human and economic rights and strengthen democratic values.

    We must change the metaphor of our society from one of war to one of peace. The Department of Defense now requires in excess of $400 billion for its activities. A Department of Peace can be an effective counterbalance, redirecting our national energies towards nonviolent intervention, mediation, and conflict resolution on all matters of human security.

    My most recent and currently favorite book: Rogue River Journal - A Winter Alone, by: John Daniel

    In November of 2000, after the presidential election but before the results were handed down by the Supreme Court, John Daniel climbed into his pickup, drove to a cabin in the Red River Gorge, and quit civilization for a proscribed time. The strictures set up were severe: no two-way human communications, no radio, no music, no news, no clocks, and no calendars. He left his wife behind and moved into a cabin sure to be snowed-in just after his arrival, where he lived in complete isolation until spring, without even his cat as a companion. He was intent on not hearing a human voice other than his own for the next six months. Thoreau's Journals were there, of course, for instruction and inspiration. In addition to the physical rigor of working in isolation, Daniel had assumed a hard spiritual task in deciding to live alone: to confront his now dead father. Rogue River Journal is the result, with writing as skilled as Jon Krakauer's-a remarkable memoir of both vivid present and past interwoven.

About me:

To those who know me, or want to:
I have spent time recently reorganizing my life's priorities and decided to update my profile to reflect the new order.

My life has been...nontraditional. I grew up as a 'military brat' traveling around the world. Those travels taught me the world is big. As a child, I imagined a world much nicer than the one in which we live. My innocence quickly vanished as my experiences in the world grew, yet my hope and optimism continued growing. My father taught me the value of a life dedicated to public service, although his influence ended with that. My life of service began as a Boy Scout and community volunteer. Later, as a young man I served my country as an Infantry Marine. During my time as a Marine, I served with some of the most honorable men and women I have ever known. My military experience provided many valuable lessons about honor, courage, self-discipline, loyalty, leadership and self-direction. I also had the opportunity to travel the world and see and do things most people only see on the discovery channel. After the Marine Corps and some college, I served my San Diego community in a nonprofit organization dedicated to servicing the needs of adults and children with developmental disabilities. It was there I developed a better understanding of roles which empathy, compassion, professionalism and patience all play in making the world a better place. I also feel the time I spent in non-profit and government service sector jobs, in addition to my musical experiences, exposed me to a degree of social consciousness I hadn't before known.

I loved my time working at a nonprofit organization but at the time I felt external pressure to earn more money. So...I traded my opportunity to make a big difference for the opportunity to make a big paycheck! VERY shortly afterward, I learned what I consider to be one of my most important life lessons...that there are MANY forms of wealth and MONETARY wealth IS NOT ALWAYS the most valuable. Armed with this powerful life lesson, I set out once again to build wealth, this time though, I knew what that meant. A part of my new quest required that I leave San Diego.

Upon arriving in Seattle, I served my new home State of Washington by working as a Community Organizer and Health Care Activist with Washington CAN - a grassroots organization dedicated to ensuring that high quality health care is a RIGHT of everyone in the United States! I have a world of respect for anyone who has every worked at the grass roots level! Much love to my activist homies! For the last year or so, I have been a contributing columnist for various Human Resources Blogs and print media outlets and am currently working on an article about "Working for Change" - my experience as an organizer in addition to Human resources Consulting work.

Throughout a life which seems to have been defined by change, there has been ONE constant...MUSIC! Whether as a child, sitting on the front porch, listening to George Jones, Loretta Lynn, Lynard Skynard, Deep Purple or some random Zydeco band, or as a house music DJ bangin' out dope ass underground house and techno music at some dark warehouse, MUSIC has been my Shepard and I have followed her along the pastures of this world and she has provided comfort during my descents into the valley's of darkness. It has been in those world's of experiences where music was present where I have felt most at home.

Music has also been the driving force for soooo much social change. Music has the ability to communicate where words often fail. It's power leaves me striving to further understand my role in the world and how my life's chord progressions fit into the symphony around me. What I've discovered so far, is that I want to make the world a better place, at least my little part of it...

In my 32 years I have had the privilege to share my life with some amazing people! There have been people in my past who have made such amazing impacts in my life. I want to meet others who have had similar and not-so-similar life experiences. Of course music addicts are always welcome, but ultimately I want to meet people who are passionate! Your passions do not need to be shared by me; in fact I enjoy sharing new ideas and different experiences! I enjoy being around others that have self-direction, some intrinsic motivation and a willingness to explore the world around them. I like people who are responsible adults but refuse to call themselves "grown-ups". I want to meet people who understand, we choose our joys and sorrows long before we experience them. I want to speak with people about the decisions we make in life and the lessons learned from those decisions.
