Apart from music, activism, regional development, pacifism, I have been part of a team doing a leftist, antiwar community radio program (thinkingoutloud.us) for over seven years. I occasionally also do music programming at WUML (wuml.org), including a show called "Hodgeheg" from about 1:00 to 3:00 pm Wednesdays this Summer. You can see rough playlists of shows I've hosted at Spinitron, and a few programs are available as podcasts at UML Community Connections, at Half Red House audio repository, and at Radio4All.net
I am involved in an auxiliary international language (auxlang) project developing a new language called Ayola, which will be available to learn online this Fall. The website at www.ayola.org has been out-of-date for a while, but we are in the prcess of bringing it up to date. It gives an idea of the basic philosophy of the project.
Have you seen "What the Bleep Do We Know?" How about "El Topo". "No Such Thing", "Cold Fever", "Brother Sun, Sister Moon", "O Lucky Man". Of course you've seen the latest version of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy", "Songcatcher", "O Brother Where Art Thou".
Among all-time favorite writers: G.B. Shaw, William Morris, Charles Dudley Warner, Ursula LeGuin, Kate Douglas Wiggin, Mark Twain, L. Frank Baum. Lately, I haven't been reading much for pleasure, since the (nonfiction) reading load in graduate school is intense, but I love librivox.org, where you can get and record public-domain audio books. last year I listened to "Sky Island" by L. Frank Baum on a long auto trip, and I recorded one of many versions of a Li Bai poem for Librivox this Summer.

In addition to my Uncle Artie, who worked all his life as a doctor and activist for underprivileged people around the world, and my maternal grandfather, physicist Earl Warner, who raised his children as pacifists, introduced me to the wonders and horrors of Manhattan, and mentored me in pacifism, I really look up to people like U. Utah Phillips, who live their principles while inspiring people.
About me: I live on a land-trust in New Hampshire, have been a vegetarian for about 42 years, started and continue to be a significant part of a weekly peace vigil, and am a Master's student in the activist Regional Economic and Social Development (RESD) department at University of Massachusetts Lowell . My daughter just graduated from college in Indiana (she's moving to Michigan in the Fall). My wife works at a local library. I'm Recording Clerk of the local Quaker Meeting, and I sing with friends every chance I get.
Who I'd like to meet: As Bill Staines puts it in his song "River", "...I met a lot of good people and I called them friends..."
If I knew who I wanted to meet, I'd have met them already. Right now I'm overwhelmed with delightful surprises!

It costs a fortune - and proves the saying that if you are clever you can make money out of shit ! Buddy and I appreciate our friends on Myspace and are interested in them . Great to know you - should you ever come to Wales , do come and see us ! xxxxx
Hey there Jim, This certainly is a last minute post, but if you happen to be in the New Bedford area or want to come down for an action packed Friday come on out and catch the showcase. It'd be great to see you again, WCS
Hi Jim, we've not long been back in the UK, but how we loved your country - it was a wonderful experience! Travelling from Seattle, all through Washington States' Olympic Peninsula was a breathtaking time for all three of us. The fact that it was combined with a "Twilight Tour" served only to enhance the experience. The Quileute Indians that we met in La Push and Forks were both friendly and wonderfully informative about their heritage. Staying to listen to one lady for an hour, with her telling stories from a bygone age - purely magical! We all thought that staying for a week was just not long enough, and we can't wait to come back. The friendliness we experienced and the wonderful hospitality of your countrymen touched our hearts, and left us all with a warm glow. Seeing such tremendous wildlife, as Elk, Deer, Bald Eagles, Pelicans, Seals etc, and not forgetting the Black Bears was truly mind-blowing. We all wish you and your family well, and send our love from a very small country called England - Mark and Carolyn x
The song was written by an old friend of Buddy, Bernie Parry, and he based it on a true incident during the first Zulu wars when the British army was driven by a terrible thirst for blood. Bernie wrote it as an Anti-War-song ( easy guess,eh ? ) but his version was much slower than ours. After he had listened to us playing it at Cropredy Festival he thanked us saying we had made an old man very happy. Unfortunately he never had the success that he deserved , other people made his songs popular. As far as we know he is still playing music , so here..s a tribute to a fantastic songwriter ! xxx
Hello, thank you for being a friend of Rey's. We are putting this page together in his memory. He would have loved your songs. Peace and Bliss, Nancy (Rey's sister friend)
Hi Jim ! thanks a lot for the friendship and your lovely comments. We have just listened to your version of "Teddybears..Picnic" which made us smile although it..s not funny in that sense. But well done ! We both love that song ,and your version is really worth listening to. The world certainly needs people with your vision and kindness ! It..s a pleasure to be your friends and we hope to meet you one day.If you ever come to WEst Wales let us know and you..re welcome to stay with us !

Just a quick note to say thank you for all of your support and your lovely review of my new album. It really does mean a lot that you are prepared to spend time writing about my music.
A while back you said you liked my music so i just wanted to do a little bit of shameless promotion! I have a new album out now on itunes (UK, US, Canada, and Japan), Rhapsody, Napster, IMVU, Shockhound and Amie Street!!
Hi Jim, thanks for the kind words. We've both always liked this song and was introduced to it by our daughter via a Hillsongs CD, it's by Kathryn Scott. I've always thought it was a truly fabulous song - strong melody, and lyrics which are ambiguous enough to not be seen as overtly Christian, and that appeals to me. It's this that I think makes the song strong, that fact that it can stand alone and be heard on it's own merits. Carolyn, who is a Christian, also takes onboard the sentiments laid out in the words and she likes it for both reasons - ie great song, but with strong message. I hadn't really thought about the "ashes to beauty" line, although it does evoke a wonderful image of something rising and being reborn. At the end of the day a great song is a great song, and if it manages to touch people for whatever reason, then it's worked it's magic and done it's job.
hi thanks for checking it out. it is a nice song. i think of johnny cash and june with that one too. well i am seeing if dahlman and mayo may add onto why boddhisatvas stare at walls. maybe you can add on tracks to some of my stuff? do you wan tto? well you could add anything, vocals etc. well i don't know how to add on but if you can figure it out. all the best, nancy
I have never heard of either of those two venues. I was staffing at girl scout camp this weekend, so I wouldn't have been able to participate anyway. Perhaps next year... if I don't stay in MD for the summer.
But I will definitely look into Brew'd Awakening! Thanks for the tip! Cheers.
