About me:

The National Head Start Association is a private not-for-profit membership organization dedicated exclusively to meeting the needs of Head Start children and their families. It represents more than 1 million children, 200,000 staff and 2,700 Head Start programs in the United States. The Association provides support for the entire Head Start community by advocating for policies that strengthen services to Head Start children and their families; by providing extensive training and professional development to Head Start staff; and by developing and disseminating research, information, and resources that enrich Head Start program delivery.

How can you help?
1) Join the fight to Save Head Start! Become a MEMBER, DONATE, and ADVOCATE at www.nhsa.org

2) Tell your Head Start story on COMMONTALES. The National Head Start Association has just formed an exciting partnership with Commontales.com, a Web site where people can tell their life stories with both words and pictures and save them for years, and generations, to come. Commontales is giving FREE lifelong memberships to all Head Start members and staff so that we can tell our history in our own words.

Thanks for the add. I have been a part of the Head Start family since 1987. Head Start not only paved the way for my three children, but it also paved the way for me. I began as a parent volunteer. And as a volunteer, I was encouraged to get my GED. And from there became employed as an assistant teacher. Over the years I have climbed the ladder of success and have held many positions and have continued to further my education. I am currently serving as a Center Supervisor and have accomplished getting our center licensed as well as NAEYC Accreditated. Head Start is all I know. I am proud to say that I have not worked for any other establishemnt. Head Start was and still is my foundation and the program is etched in my heart.

I am a first year Parent of the HeadStart Program of Oregon, Linn County and I would like to say that opportunities like this don't come around this often where, WE as Parents, have the chance to change education for the better, so to all the Parents of NHSA, take this chance in life and give your children a voice and become active in their education.
    We are the Parents of
"Generation O"... Children with Infinite Possibilities.

Don't be silent Parents because your voice really does count.

    Thank you!

    Greg Adams-Chairman
    Policy Council, Linn County, Oregon

I have a special needs child and I was worried that the program would not take him and they did!! My son has a condition called HED, Hypohydrotic Ectodermal Dysplasia. It is a condition in which the childeren are born without sweatglands. It also affects the growth of the teeth, hair, and nails.
He has to have speech therapy, and the teachers are great!! He is a normal, healthy, and full of enery!! His teachers love him, and he has lots of friends!

Hi, I was a former parent, I became a teaching assistant, and HS paid for me to take college classes, and now I am a Family Service Field Rep in Phila, Pa. Thanks to Head Start I have a career now for the past 13 Yrs and have been able to raise my 2 children as a single mom. It has been a very rewarding experience, being able to help other families in this program. Thanks for the site.

I owe a lot to the Head Start program, not only did my child attend Head Start but it was the the HS staff that inspired and helped me to get into college where I excelled.
I'm happy to be "giving it back"!
