    In her spare time, Peeples contributes her energy and resources to various non-profit groups, including VEPAG (Vision Entertainment Performance Art Group) which provides music and performance art opportunities to inner city children, as well as IHF (International Humanity Foundation), an international organization committed to the abolishment of child trafficking.

    In 2005, she traveled to the wilds of Indonesia, where, in the wake of the massive earthquake and tsunami that devastated South East Asia, Peeples spent a month at sea in a 75-foot Bugi pirate schooner, delivering emergency supplies and medical care to the isolated villages on the west coast of Sumatra. An avid surfer, she has ridden the waves up and down the coast of California, as well as exploring for surf in more far-flung locales like Hawaii, Baja, Costa Rica and West Africa.

    Emerging as a singer/dancer on Fame, Peeples carried this momentum into her career as a successful recording artist, whose accomplishments included Top 10 Pop and Club hits, a number one dance hit (Trouble), numerous Billboard and Cashbox awards, and an MTV choreography nomination. She also hosted Friday Night Street Party, the syndicated Nia Peeples' Party Machine and Top of the Pops. In addition, she developed a resume as a songwriter, penning tunes for both herself and other chart-topping artists and contributing songs to projects like A License to Kill, Melrose Place, The Cutting Edge and her new animated feature, Firedog.

    Peeples remains a popular musical artist, and has recently performed shows in Los Angeles, Chicago and Parma, Italy.

    Nia has starred in independent films such as The Riff and Inside Out, as well as the big budget feature Blues Brothers 2000. She also appeared in the critically acclaimed urban comedy I Don't Buy Kisses Any More and the surf cult classic North Shore, as well as film festival favorite Bruised. She portrayed a villainess in the action-thriller Half Past Dead, in which her fight scenes earned her a nomination for a World Stunt Award. Her most recent projects include Connor's War and a voice-over role in the upcoming animated film Firedog.

    Nia's film directorial debut, the short feature Treading Water (which she also co-wrote and produced) garnered an Honorable Mention at the Indie Producer Awards.

    Nia Peeples joined the cast of The Young and the Restless in April, 2007 as Karen Taylor, a savvy political operative who, after managing Nikki Newman's senatorial campaign, landed a powerful executive position at Newman Enterprises.

    Peeples found success in her first starring role on the hit television series Fame. She has since starred in the Nielsen-topping mini-series Return to Lonesome Dove and the long-running series Walker, Texas Ranger.

    Nia has proven herself equally creative off-stage, and has written two screenplays. In 2006, she directed Back in Love, a music video for Unified Tribe, Britain's number one soul band.

April 23, 2009: A THANK YOU FOR THE FANS

I just wanted to take the time to thank all you Y and R fans for sending your messages of appreciation and best wishes as well as for your dedication and insight. I don’t usually read message boards and blogs and such as they can be pretty tough to get through on a personal level. Having been in the public eye for over 25 years you’d think one would get used to the overly passionate expressions of both dislike and admiration. But honestly no one’s skin is that tough. We all crack once in a while. But Jessica encouraged me to have a look. So when my last episode aired I gathered up my nerve and had a peek. After preparing myself for the worst I had a good long read and I must say I was overwhelmed by the response. You, the Y and R fans, should be given a ton of credit. Rather than merely stating your likes and dislikes of the characters and storyline, you all are so devoted that you actually distinguish between executive producers, writers, and show runners. You recognize the difference between an actor’s performance and the material he or she has been given. You know the storylines and history better then we do and YOU CARE. That takes intelligence and absolute devotion. Hats off to you the fans. Y and R, or any soap for that matter is nothing without you. Never again will I feel frustration over having not been given a driving storyline. And I am so glad I chose to squeeze as much as I could out of each and every moment that I was given. It was my absolute pleasure to give everything I had in the portrayal of Karen. You are worth the effort.

April 7, 2009: NIA DEVELOPING REALITY SHOW FOR TEENS AND PARENTS

Nia is developing a reality show for teens and parents called "The Teen Whisperer." Check out mikelinderman.com for more info.

Says Nia, "The idea behind the reality show is that we bring 2-3 families with troubled teens to a ranch for a week to help give them the tools to becoming a better family. We use the duties on a ranch like fencing, penning calves etc to help them learn about their own family dynamics and how they are contributing to the dysfunction of the family. Then we give them tools to resolve the issues. It's very powerful."

"The Teen Whisperer" will likely air in the fall.
