A band fallen victim to the almost complete obliviousness by the record companies, reviewers and listeners, Nice Cliques, nevertheless, present the world a curious mix of influences, both “old” and “new”, almost in the vein of their fellow countrymen, Franz Ferdinand. That is not to say they sound anything similar. If we try to look into the melting pot and fish out individual ingredients, the likes of Radiohead, Pixies, Jefferson’s Airplane, The Talking Heads, or even The Stooges would come to mind, although in this case the soundscape created by the band is not merely the sum of its particles. Nice Cliques are inventive on the border of schizophrenic, imaginative verging on paranoid, dreamy to the point of nightmares, and fun in the way undertaker jokes’ are. In other words, it’s worth a listen, if you have done your homework of the 60s, 80s and 90s, of course.
