STEVE MINGOLLA's Comedian Bio
|
| Bio | They call him the “The Nice Guy”. They’ve always called him that. Steve Mingolla never met a person he didn’t like. His act is a definite burst of New York attitude mixed in with a bit of Southern hospitality.
After attending two years of college at Texas Tech University, Steve was lost. (Majors included: architectural engineering one semester, two semesters in art and one semester in Air Force ROTC). “Because that’s what I wanted to be; an architectural fighter pilot artist”. His third year of college, however, was spent in Honolulu, Hawaii attending Kopiolani Community College. (Whose campus shared property with Magnum PI Studios). It was here where Steve finally excelled in acting and scuba diving!
An annual talent contest was about to take place at the college and Steve was encouraged to enter as a comedian by his acting coach. “My first bit I ever wrote was an impression of Popeye the Sailor smoking something else in that corn cob pipe he ‘always’ had”. The thrill of making an audience laugh had him hooked. Stand-up comedy would forever change his life.
That following year, Steve dropped out of college and moved to Hollywood, CA to follow his bliss. He landed a job as a doorman at the “World Famous” Comedy Store on the Sunset Strip. It was there that he worked with and learned from comics such as Dennis Miller, Louie Anderson, Gary Shandling, Sam Kinison and Lenny Clark, just to name a few. On one fateful occasion, Dennis Miller offered to watch and critique Steve’s performance at Igby’s Comedy Club in Santa Monica. After his set, Dennis took Steve aside to offer a perspicacious analysis. Dennis said, “Stevie, I’ve been doing comedy for fourteen years. I can say f… any time I want…you can’t! It just doesn’t sound right coming out of your mouth.” It was at that moment, Mingolla realized that although some comics become quite successful through the use of explicit language, his path would have to be clean. After all, he’s a nice guy.
Steve stays busy touring forty plus weeks a year all over the U.S. He’s done numerous television commercials, syndicated radio shows, corporate events, charities, military instillations in Europe, comedy clubs and civic auditoriums. He has also appeared on TNN, Comedy Central, Liars and Legends and Showtime. “I don’t like to mention it, but I was also a losing contestant on both ‘The Dating Game’ and ‘Love Connection’ back when I was just getting started.” Along with his associate Vinnie “The Hit Man” Coppola, you can hear their song ‘The Wise Guys 12 Days of Christmas’ on satellite radio. Steve has also had record sales of his t-shirt, sporting a line from his show…”I got spanked, look how I turned out.” And, he is currently working on an untitled book regarding famous quotes and can be seen on Comcast Cable’s Comedy on Demand. | | Website | niceguycomedy.com | | Influences | LIFE | | TV Shows | a few | | Films | yep. | | Albums | one, so far. |
