About me:
CALL FOR ARTISTS!!!!! CALL FOR ARTISTS!!!!!
Niche Video Art, in conjunction with Vapor Brothers, present “Vapor Eyes,” a functional art show featuring customized Vaporizers. This open juried show will be held at Niche Video Art (4th Floor) and the Spring Arts Collective (Mezzanine) in the Spring Arts Tower during the Downtown Art Walk in April and May 2008.
“Vapor Eyes” opens April 10, 2008 and runs till June 1, 2008 with a special Opening on April 20, 2008.
All artist designed shells are guaranteed to be exhibited inside the gallery during the length of the show; however, only 40 selected designs out of 150 juried by Niche Video Art and Vapor Brothers will be executed into a fully functioning Vaporizer. Functioning Vaporizers are built with a light that glows from the bottom when turned on in the color of the artist's choice. If no color is specified, a blue light will glow from the heating element glass, and a blue/green mix from the bottom. The artist may collaborate with Vapor Brothers to change the light color in the heater glass and/or the bottom. Available colors are purple, blue, red, green, yellow, white (with purple cast), and orange.
Final vaporizer designs should be functional and should survive 150F without cracking or peeling, especially in the areas near the heater. In addition, the inner cavity that houses the heating element should be kept free of obstructions. Vapor Brothers is available to help artists work within these constraints. Please note that all Vaporizer shells delivered to the artists will be bare wood.
HOW IT WORKS: Selected artists must arrange to pick up their wooden Vaporizer shell at Niche Video Art from Feb 2nd - 16th from 11AM - 4PM. Please arrange a time. All vaporizer shells must be returned complete to Niche Video Art by March 1, 2008.
The Vapor Brothers first invented the first wood-box style glass on glass vaporizer in 1999. A vaporizer is a device used to release therapeutic compounds from herbs as an alternative to smoking. This will be the first art show showcasing customized Vaporizers.
For more information about participating in Vapor Eyes, please contact Nic Cha Kim of Niche Video Art at nck@niche.la / (213) 247-0002.
