My Lord and Savior...Jesus Christ ,My Mother,My Daughter,The neighborhood in which I grew up, My Church Home & friends,//// Thomas Whitfield and Company, Debarge(love the harmonies), Aretha Franklin, Anita Baker, Mint Condition, Tina Turner, Lenny Kravitz and every single Gospel Artist and Musician in Detroit City-(Noone does it Better!!!!)
Lil Rocka gets her start in the Heart of the Motor City ( Detroit ). Growing up in some of the most gritty parts of the city gave her insight of a diffrent kind and inspired her to write music.....it is the Only thing that kept her Sane.
She is the youngest of 7 children of whom all had diffrent personalities and listened to various styles of music..........this lead to Nichelle being very diversed with her musical capabilites.
Lil Rocka started out singing in the Church she grew up in ( True Faith Baptist Church ) at the tender age of 4. The minute the Musical Director heard how strong her voice was, she demanded she be placed in the Adult Choir. This lead her to become 1 of the main Lead soloist and eventually becoming 1 of Detroit's dynamic Directors.
She then began singing with community choirs all over the city of Detroit, and performing for various TV shows such as Bobby Jones and Vickie Winans.
This journey lead her to do Theater and she started traveling with Gospel Theater Productions all over the country such as: "The Devil Made Me Do It", " God Don't Like Ugly", "God's Trombone", "Jesus Christ SuperStar"....and the list goes on.
Lil Rocka at this time decided she wanted to start a Girl's singing Group named JWUN(Just What U Need). The Group went on to perform for many charities (Naacp, Coats For Kids...etc).
This group had many musical journey's from Secular Music to Gospel, as well as many diffrent names, leaving the 2 remaining members as 1aChord. After the final breakup of the group, Nichelle decided to go SOLO, and made a Major Move to New Jersey........this would bring her closer to NYC(The Musical Empire).
Since Lil Rocka's move to New Jersey she has been Blessed to work with many Artists such as: Joe Cocker, Mario, Monica, Kelis, RES,Taylor Dayne,Nona Hendryx, Alice Smith, MetroSonics and the list goes on....................
Lil Rocka has had the chance to write Title songs for TV(ToolBelt Diva, PussyCat Dolls Reality Show, and various gingles for commercials.
She has also written for Girl Groups in the NYC area and with her Lyrical talent has coached Rappers from the Queens area of NYC.
Lil Rocka started working on her Own Sound, and wanted to find her Niche realizing her Voice and Sound was so diffrent.
Once she found it......Lil Rocka owned it....and this is where Rock Baby is Born.
Lil Rocka comes at ya Raw & Raspy.
Her Sound is Creative yet Original.
She sings and writes from the Heart.....not just a piece of Paper.
Detroit is so proud of their Artist( Nikki)....and she Loves Detroit right back.
New York and New Jersey are embracng the fresh air.
We welcome her Niche, her Light, her Energy to the World............Lil Rocka is Born!
