About me:
I'm a journalist and novelist who lives in Brooklyn. This summer I'll be moving to Berlin as the correspondent there for the New York Times.

My novel, LAST ONE IN, is coming out this summer. It's a satire set during the Iraq invasion, about a gossip columnist who is forced to embed with the Marines for the fight to Baghdad.

Check out the New York Daily Herald's
coverage of the build-up to the war.

“[A] steady flow of Yossarian-flavored absurdity.”
— Publishers Weekly

“Compelling...Uses humor to illuminate the deadly absurdities of war…a deft command of tone—from the slapstick to the tragic.”
— Kirkus Reviews

“As someone who donned a gasmask and tried but failed to embed with the U.S. Marines in Kuwait, I can say with gusto that Nicholas Kulish gets it exactly right: The high-testosterone, the needless WMD fears, the ineluctable forward drive of the whole ill-conceived operation. Kulish’s funny, engaging novel makes clear that the gargantuan mess we’ve made in Iraq all started with an impressionable and largely incompetent reporting corps who saw the invasion not as a tragic mistake but as a rollicking good adventure.”
— Hampton Sides, bestselling author of "Blood and Thunder" and "Ghost Soldiers"

“Last One In is a war story told with wit and sympathy. Sharply written and instantly engaging, it is a very funny book that is part of a distinctive literary tradition: the grunt’s comedy. Like Shakespeare’s Pistol or the Good Soldier Svejk, Last One In is embedded down with the grunts—the grunts of the media as well as the military—down where politics and ideology are less important than surviving.”
— Arthur Phillips, author of "Prague" and "The Egyptologist"

“Like Tim O’Brien’s 'Going After Cacciato' or David O. Russell’s film 'Three Kings,' Nicholas Kulish’s witty, fast-paced and sympathetic novel set at the beginning of the war in Iraq brings home both the terror and the absurdity of combat in a way that nonfiction rarely can.”
— Adam Langer, author of Crossing California and The Washington Story

Hey.

I haven't been by in a while and thought I'd stop in and say hi. It's Monday again. I'm back to work on a new book.

A Demon Awaits will be out on October 14th. I'm excited for the release and waiting for news about the screenplay. If nothing else, the new book will keep my mind off the waiting.

What's happening in your world?

Thanks for the add! It means much!

Franz Kafka, in his Letter to Oskar Pollak, said, "I think we ought to read only the kind of books that wound and stab us...We need the books that affect us like a disaster, that grieve us deeply, like the death of someone we loved more than ourselves, like being banished into forests far from everyone, like a suicide. A book must be the axe for the frozen sea inside us."

Crows on the Cross is such a book.

It's like Stephen King's Christine on crack. I liked the way the story jumped from Rainey to Drew and back. Also, the titles of the chapters made you feel like you were counting down to something big. I give it two thumbs up, fine holiday fun!...Sheena, Reader from VA

The most frightening thing in the human race is that we 'produce' the worse monsters, demons, evil, vile creatures outside of our imaginations. That's what makes Crows on the Cross such a compelling read. Imagine how sick and twisted a human has to be to become a demon?

This is a book that shows that both men and women are susceptible to the real-life monsters that live and breathe all around us. In a red '69 Caddy, you'll ride right along side them and delve right into their pasts, becoming white knuckled by the end wanting to destroy their demons for them.

-Lauren Ferrell, Publisher

The demons she creates in this book are too real, so real it will change the way you look at the common passerby every time you walk out your front door.

Kristy Tallman has done it again! Her ability to turn the pages of a novel into a real to life psychological hell for the reader by showing you that the genuine horror in this world is our very own human race has again been accomplished with an encore for more. Tallman has definitely surpassed th
