A little musical background. I started piano at the age of five and took lessons through my early 20s, studying classical repertoire. After graduating from college (University of Chicago/mathematics), I embarked on a completely unrelated career as a graphic designer for print publications. In the 90s, while working as an art director in Munich, I scored a friend's film. Soon after, I took Buddy Baker's film scoring workshop and participated in the New York University composers forum during the summer quarter. When I settled briefly in New York, there was some more work at NYU and night classes at Juilliard. In 2001 I relocated to Los Angeles and enrolled in UCLA's film scoring program, supplementing my work there with classes at Pasadena City College (clarinet, horn, conducting).
In 2005 I started actively looking for film projects, and scored several shorts, a feature, and a good deal of additional music for films. You'll find most of my filmography at the IMDB.

Nicholas, Thank you so much for the add! I'm so glad you enjoyed my music. The feeling is definitely mutual. I'll be sending more people your way as well. You write beautifully. Best, Robby Elfman
Hello Nick! I'm doing good. How are you? My Beethoven is coming along slowly, and so is the Bach fugue. It's a little tricky, but I'm sure it'll come with practice. Take care~
HEY NICK!!!!!! So glad to see you are getting the music out there, that I was/am so happy to be part of! Hope to see you real soon, and that the festival is a big success for the movie... Hope you are well! Phil
hey Nick! Happy nEw year back at you, man. I'm in Estonia with M-Pact right now. Man the halls here are incredible- they know how to build-em. I'm back on Jan 16th. Sure would love to see you then. Also, are you friends with Bei Bei? I'm trying to get her to do a joint concert/tour with me! myspace is so weirdly small...
miss you, man.
Hi fellow Hermann-fan. Thanks so much for the add and the generous comment. I love what I'm hearing of your work. The playing in On the Rocks is gorgeous. Milonga is exquisite.
