Casey Nicholson is a candidate for the Tennessee House of Representatives in the 5th District, which encompasses Unicoi County and half of Greene County, including all of the Greeneville city limits:
Casey Nicholson was born in Knox County, but moved to Tusculum as an infant and always lived in Greene County while he was growing up, effectively making him a Greene County native.
Casey is the son of a single mother who taught at Highland Elementary School for thirty-eight years. Casey's father was a blue collar auto technician who lived in Greene County most of his life. Casey’s father passed away in 2002.
Casey is a graduate of Greeneville High School, Walters State Community College, East Tennessee State University, and Memphis Theological Seminary. He earned honors credentials in all of his post-high school degrees.
Casey is an ordained minister of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
Casey is currently pursuing a Ph.D. degree at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland where he is studying Religion & Politics. He is writing his dissertation on state-level politics in Tennessee.
Casey believes in the principle of broad prosperity--that every Tennessean should have the means to live a good life, no matter what walk of life they come from.
Casey believes in individual liberty, and that all peoples should be able to live their life in this great land as they so choose.
Casey believes in equality for all people, and that one of the fundamental purposes of government should be to make sure that people from all walks of life are treated fairly under the laws of the state.
Casey believes in effective government—that government should operate efficiently and carry out the will of the people.
Casey believes in transparency in government—that the public should have broad access to the democratic process, and that officials should carry out their deliberations in the open, rather than behind closed doors.
Casey believes in fiscal responsibility—that the state should be responsible with money it receives from taxes. Casey believes that the state has the responsibility to fund the programs that the people want and need, but that its elected officials should be responsible stewards of taxpayers' money.
