一般Among other things - writing. Short stories, novel-length narratives, articles, reviews, plays. Things that make you laugh, or ponder, or cry, or shudder. In a good way.

Writing songs that will hopefully make people smile or make them laugh or make them go "that was beautiful" with a tear in their eye. Or just a song that stick in people's heads and make them go stark raving bonkers, shrieking, "Make the music stop! Make the music stop!"

Playing the piano
. Singing. Or watching someone else, somebody spectacular (you're out there, somewhere), sing.

Contemporary musical theatre.

Animals. Adopt a puppy today!

Making jokes at the supermarket checkout so that the cashier either laughs along or looks uncomfortable. Dancing in the middle of a public place (and looking like Drew Carey while I do it).

Triple-shot low-fat venti iced caramel macchiatos from Starbucks. The expressions on people's faces when I order a triple-shot low-fat venti iced caramel macchiato from Starbucks.

My songwriting achievements include: Winner for Best World Song in the Murdoch University Songwriting Competition 2003 for Farewell Lullaby; Hot Pick Winner in the 2005 Pacific Songwriting Competition, New Zealand, for Ring On My Finger; commendation recipient in the 2006 Pacific Songwriting Competition, New Zealand, for All Eternity; Second Place Winner for Best Musical and Special Certificate Recipient for Overall Achievement (Book, Music & Lyrics) in Perth's Finley Awards for Independent Theatre (2005) for my Christmas musical Follow The Light; and finalist in the Malaysian Revival Songwriting Competition 2006 for Brand New Beginning.

My musical theatre productions include: Zak Zebra's African Safari (children's, 2003); Richard III: A Bollywood Musical (2003); Athena Emu at the Olympics (children's, 2004); A Sip of Shakespeare (2004); Captain Quokka's Adventures on the High Seas (children's, 2005); 1927 (2005); and Follow The Light (2005) - all at Nexus Theatre, Murdoch University, Perth, Western Australia.

Short films and TV works include: Love On The Box (co-composer, 2003), TV series on Perth's Access 31; The Passenger (original score, 2004), directed by Kayti Fryer [Perth]; and Flights of Angels (featured music, 2005), produced and directed by Andrew Burleigh Smith [Sydney].

Music favourites include that genre of music that's pop-rock (or prock, as I call it) - the likes of Lifehouse, Matchbox 20, Jars of Clay, Third Eye Blind, Snow Patrol. Sydney's Thirsty Merc rocks!!!!

I'm also a raving fanatic of contemporary musicals (helllooo Rent! Wicked! Aida!). Favourite composer of the moment in this genre: Jason Robert Brown: Parade, Songs for a New World, The Last Five Years. Mmmm.

I dabble in some Christian contemporary, jazz and classical.

電影The Emperor's New Groove always cracks me up. Bewaareee the grooooveee...

電視Sitcoms! Sitcoms! Sitcoms! How I Met Your Mother! Ugly Betty! My Name Is Earl! Will & Grace! The New Adventures of Old Christine!

I'm such a geek. :P

Okay, some sci-fi/fantasy (Stargate, anyone? Heroes!) and scary(?) stuff (Supernatural, Ghost Whisperer). Dramas? Brothers & Sisters. Jericho. And more - much, much more. Moving on...!

書籍I love to read! Best book I've read in 2006? The Time Traveler's Wife by Audrey Niffenegger. Favourite authors include Dean Koontz, James Herbert, John Saul, Mo Hayder, Deborah Robertson, Sophie Kinsella and Nicholas Sparks, among many others!

偶像People who love music, who love to write, and who love to laugh and smile!

Jesus.

People who are courteous to others, especially those who serve them food (how you treat your waiter/waitress says a lot about you!).

Animal lovers!

And people who laugh at my lame jokes behind the checkout counter.

I'm a 28-year-old songwriter, musician and playwright from Malaysia - but you can find out more about this by visiting my Myspace Music profile and Christian Music profile! If you're interested in my music and music-related work, please send me a friend request from my Music spaces! Thanks!

I'm also a published author of three books, including my latest:

Get Spooked!
Night Terrors

Marshall Cavendish (Malaysia), April 2007;
ISBN: 9789833845378

Blurb:
Night terrors (noun): anxiety attacks with extreme panic, often accompanied by screaming, sweating, flailing and fast breathing, that usually occur within a few hours after going to bed. A young boy channels the spirit of his dead grandmother in his sleep; a documentary on bedtime habits yield frightening fruit; a runaway finds herself with unexpected company in a lonely motel room; an overnight stay in a hotel attracts unwelcome visitors. Find out what horrors lurk in Freaky Nick's second collection of tales to keep you wide awake all night!

Contents:
Room For Two - Katherine wakes up in the middle of the night to find someone lying in bed next to her. Is it her cruel, contemptutous boyfriend Luke, or someone - something - more sinister...?

Dead and Board - Inspired by actual events, two stewardesses check into a hotel room to find themselves with uninvited, and terrifying, company...

Dreamscape - When Justin agrees to help his friend Brett with a video documentary on sleeping habits, he discovers he's being visited in the middle of the night by some very frightening visitors who seem to be giving him chilling nightmares...

Selfish - A mother's wish for a break from her children's constant quarelling comes true when a horrifying incident takes place in the middle of the night...

Sundown - When Dave, Cam, Janelle and Rachel are stranded in the middle of nowhere following a camping trip, they seek shelter from a mysterious lodge, only to be warned of a deadly curse: do not bleed after sundown!

Shade - Debra finds the people around her dying in horrific, violent ways. Who, or what, is killing these innocent bystanders... and what does it have to do with the frightening old woman who lurks on the street corner...?

Maternal Instinct - Steven and Sam wake up in the middle of the night to find their little brother channelling the spirit of their dead grandmother - and a darker, more malevolent entity that accompanies her...

ISBN: 9833001068

Blurb:

From invisible entities and out-of-body experiences to murderous rampages and nature turned unnatural, this book consists of stories guaranteed to chill you to the bone!

Contents:

Six Feet Under & Several Feet Away - A frightening apparition is stalking Judith, maintaining an exact distance from her no matter where she goes. What does it want, and why is it making Judith's first days at university a living hell...?

The Passenger - Clinton Bell's life is thrown into chaos when his roommate insists an invisible creature is piggybacking him...

The Stalking - When Daniel runs over a cat with his car, he finds himself the target of a vicious vengeance by a pack of savage animals...

Trippers
(Click on title for ordering info)

Writers Club Press (USA), December 2001;
ISBN: 0595295216

Blurb:
It seemed like such a simple plan: 13 teenagers with no adult supervision, to spend a weekend in a bungalow up on a hill. But their weekend of fun and excitement quickly turns to one of mystery and madness when bizarre occurrences begin to take place.

Soon, it is clear that there is something very wrong with the House on the Hill ... and the teenagers realise that it is the vacation of their lives - as they wind up fighting to survive.

Trippers is a dark parody of haunted house novels, garnished with macabre humour and served with generous helpings of horror.

Last but not least, I'm also a cartoonist. My work has been published in Malaysian newspaper theSun (2000-2002), and new cartoons are featured on The Nut Graph, a Malaysian news analyses and opinion website.
