A consultant is someone who takes the watch off your wrist, then tells you what time it is. The session waxed and waned with reason and eloquence, each of us by turns expressing the advantages and flaws, which boiled down to this essence:
Me: I dont wanna.
She: You gotta.
She got under a thick layer of reluctance by simply saying that it's not about me, it's about the songs.
Sneaky, that woman, and worth every dime I owe her.
From one friend of Howard Zinn to another — Thanks for adding me. ¶ People hear only what they want, so facts alone won't wake them; they need inspiration too. ¶ This world's evils have a common root: Bullies, liars, thieves, murderers — in market, government, & elsewhere — believe we're all separate, motivated only by self-interest, greed, fear. They want us to share that belief. They use it to justify themselves, to keep us apart, to shape the world's political & economic systems, perpetuating war & poverty. Their power comes not so much from cabals as from incessant propaganda that we hardly notice, implicit in the background assumptions of tv & newspapers. ¶ But you & I have found a better light inside ourselves & our friends. It's in everyone, if we can just wake them; we're all one flesh & blood. Let's spread that vision, for until we do our other advances will be minor & temporary. Theists & atheists alike, let us sing of our brotherhood. ¶ Peace & communication are one subject, not two, & no one can know that subject perfectly until we all do. To teach anyone anything, you must lead them out of the maze of their preconceptions; but that means they must teach you their maze, which requires leading you out of yours! ¶ The outcome of the ideological struggle is not yet determined, so no one can afford to be just a spectator. Join the movement, if you haven't already: get involved in whatever way feels right for you. We must all learn from one another; each of us knows only part of the song. Question authority. Keep fighting, loving, hoping, singing. Hand in hand, we may still be able to heal this world. ¶ The flag of the USA, once a symbol of democracy & freedom, has now come to stand for plutocracy, consumerism, imperialism. Small flags are being sold in grocery stores, in anticipation of July 4. I'll wear mine upside down. ¶ Peace, love, hope, revolution. More details on my web page. — Eric
Thanks for adding me to your friends list. Since I found your music yesterday I have been telling family and friends about it. I have not seen a CD advertised on your page, is there one??
Hey, thanks for the add. My family and I enjoyed listening to your music at Vicki's scout cabin "house party". I was the one with the little boys. I hope she does another one soon. Nice meeting you.
Hi Nick, thanks for adding me. I'm glad you (although reluctantly) got a Myspace site... because your music is worth sharing. Sorry I missed your last show, but I know I'll see you around. Best, Arlene
Hi Nick, just dropping by to say hello. I also wanted to ask whether you were planning to put Workin' up on your player? It's one of my favourite songs of yours.
Hi Nick, Thanks for being a friend. I'm one of the ladies from the Suwannee (Mama Sarah has the RV and we camped behind the music hall the first time we met you.) We also went to the Hildegard's show in Valdosta when the people were so, so rude. I sent a letter to the editor of the paper and they published it. It may not change things, but I was able to express my feelings. I also haven't been back since then. I hoped someone from the venue would tell everybody to shut up and they didn't. Oh well. Some people just have no manners. Hopefully we can see you down the road again somewhere in a place we can actually listen to your music. Take care and safe travels, Sal
Thanks for the request and for supporting Ms. Roy!
"The only dream worth having is to dream that you will live while you are alive, and die only when you are dead. To love, to be loved. To never forget your own insignificance. To never get used to the unspeakable violence and vulgar disparity of the life around you. To seek joy in the saddest places. To pursue beauty to its lair. To never simplify what is complicated or complicate what is simple. To respect strength, never power. Above all to watch. To try and understand. To never look away. And never, never to forget." - Arundhati Roy
HI Nick~ Glad to see you here. I caught your opening set in Columbia last week. Loved your songs, absolutely brilliant lyrics. Thanks for the add and hope to see you again. :) My best always, ~B. Jane
Hey Nick-- You and Elizabeth sounded great at Falcon Ridge, and that stage is where you belong. Here's to more doors opening in the coming months and years. I'll be there, cheering loudly, and trying to oil the hinges when I can. Be well, and hope to see you soon! -Pat
Nick Annis is always the best songwriter in the crowded room.He is,in fact, the man, the bomb and the one who rules. I, for one, intend to listen closely and steal what I can.
Nick -- you're here! You drank the Kool-Aid, yes, but that smart lady be right: it be about the music, which in your case, is actually worth a good bit on this planet in these times. Hope you're well -- Jean
Nick Annis rules. Rules, I tell you. The bomb. The man. Sure, it took him an awful long time to get this myspace profile. That's because he's got better things to do. Things like writing great songs. Things like winning the hearts and minds of little children, lovely ladies and wily octogenarians. Things like failing to return the repeated phone calls of friends from Maine...
