.. - Get Your Own
With a rich background in Gospel/Soul, Nick’s music is redolent with imagery, whether he’s covering a classic or treating the listener to one of his original works, the power of his vocals impact the mind evoking memories and creating dreams. Not surprisingly, the term, “Blue-Eyed Soul”, has often been applied to Nick. As you listen to the resonant timbre of his rich, full voice it comes as no surprise to learn that he developed his vocal chops listening to such artists as BeBe and CeCe Wynans, Whitney Houston, First Call, Mariah Carey, Celine Dion and Aretha Franklin.
Though his musical style is primarily Pop/R&B, he transitions smoothly into anything from southern blues to Latin flavored Pop. Regardless the genre, this soulful singer/songwriter’s unique voice propels the listener to an alternate plane where feelings run raw and powerful. His vocals pulsate with a passion that targets the soul bringing the lyrics to life, and with a four-octave range and beautifully honed falsetto he is able to inject fresh life into even the simplest of melodies.
Though Nick enjoys the challenge of doing cover music, his true love is sharing himself through original works. Someone once said, “write about what you know”, and this is advice that Nick has taken to heart as a lyricist. With honesty, sensitivity, and an indefatigable sense of humor, he writes of “real life”, and its power to impact and change our existence.
He’s performed background vocals for such Christian Music greats as Janna Long (of Avalon) and Wayne Watson. Nick worked on Ms. Long’s self-titled project, “Janna”. His vocals can be heard on two tracks; Somebody Loves You, and What Would I Do. He was also privileged to sing alongside Lisa Bevill on Wayne Watson’s CD, “Living Room”; together they provided background vocals on the track, Glorify Your Name.
Nick was raised in Missouri and his vocal gift was first evidenced around age four, when it was discovered that he was able to discern and sing the harmony part to most any melody. As he grew, so did his love of music. He thoroughly immersed himself in every opportunity to use his talent in both church and school, always excelling. Then, in 2000 he and his family moved to Nashville, Tennessee, where he now resides.
Church was a big part of his life growing up, and he will tell you that it’s the deep spiritual moorings developed through a strong family unit and a fervent belief in God that have kept him grounded and sane.
To quote Nick, “Life is full of the good and the bad, I’ve had to take it as it comes, deal as best I can—music helps me deal. I don’t believe God is afraid of our humanity; I believe he takes joy in the full-spectrum of our life experience, joy and sorrow, blessing and loss, even our sexuality. These things make up a large portion of life, to exclude any of them would be dishonest.”
Some day I will sing with this amazing woman. Kelly Clarkson, you are out of this world, an outstanding talent and my favorite artist.
