As one of the main protagonists behind the so-called Mannheim sound, the meteoric rise of Nick Curly is one of the telling stories to unfold over the last two years and bears proof of what is possible to accomplish, even in these rapidly changing times for electronic music.
Being at the helm of Cecille and 8 bit Records, two of the most exciting labels to emerge from the German underground scene certainly doesn’t do his reputation any harm, but without doubt it is the combustible nature of his killer dancefloor 12”s and a burgeoning reputation as an A list DJ which has taken his name worldwide.
Releases on labels such as Cocoon, Murmur, Supernature, 8 bit and Plastic City laid the groundwork of what might follow back in 2007/8, before this year Nick came back and unleashed his ‘Series’ collection on 8 Bit and Cecille, which proved to be his biggest releases to date, and then following it up with his debut smash ‘Pujante’ on Cocoon before capping it all with a debut DJ mix compilation ‘Reasons’ which was released on 8 Bit in June.
All this before 2009’s half way stage.
The remainder of the year sees Nick touring the ‚Reasons’ compilation with his debut tours of South America in August, North America in October and Australia in November. Whilst back in Europe in the autumn, he will catch his breath long enough to join his label mates on the 2 Years of Cecille European tour, which hits key clubs such as Fabric, Panoramabar, Studio Martin, Goa, Harry Klein, and Open House, Paris.
