Starting with the bassoon at the age of twelve, Nicola rapidly mastered several other instruments including the bass guitar, flute, clarinet and oboe. Nicola ultimately settled with the saxophone, discovering she could express herself through its supposed magical powers.
Nicola is usually found in the depths of a dark orchestra pit, or the bar, out of which she is now emerging, playing an inventive combination of styles. Nicola has evolved and developed into an extremely adaptable musician; her saxophone playing is colourful and mesmerising, whilst encompassing and transforming her numerous musical influences into a distinctive blend.
Her performances are engaging and erratically entertaining, reflecting her personality, and quintessentially project her identity through their distinctiveness and define her creativeness. Nicola’s gigs are sensitive, unpredictable, ridiculous, irritatingly catchy and hyperactive, making her performances truly exceptional.
Since arriving in Liverpool, Nicola has found herself in demand as a versatile instrumentalist, a musician who can interpret and regurgitate the many musical styles she is requested to perform. Eventually and thankfully escaping the confines of musical theatre, Nicola has spread her wings to explore the worlds of jazz, fusion, Latin, funk and contemporary music with her phenomenally talented 12-piece band.
Boundaries of traditional saxophone performance are pushed to the limits in this distinctive collaboration of musicians.
