Nick James was born and raised in Oakland, California. Son of a musically gifted, avant-garde jazz artist, Nick has always been inspired by music. He started experimenting with music production at 17 and never looked back. Now, with years of practice and experience he is ready to bring his music to the world.
RAP SHEET
Nick James' entry into the rap game started with the release of his rendition of Jay-Z's Black Album THE COLOR LINE (A.K.A. The Mulatto Album). Even though hundreds of people remixed Jay-Z's last album, Nick's was full with an additional 6 remixes. Many claim that his version was "better than Jay-Z's." This remix project brought aspiring MCs to Nick for a sound different from anything else in The Bay.
NICK JAMES REMIXES VOL. 1 was another remix project where Nick remixed all of today's popular artist. Kanye's "Jesus Walks," Nas' "Made You Look," Kelis' "Milkshake," Fabolous' "Breathe," Slum Village's "Selfish," and even Marvin Gaye's "Sexual Healing" is on this disc so check it out.
Now he has brought you AMERICAN PRODUCER, his take on Jay-Z's American Gangster. Made in five days, Nick has revamped his sound to one up Jay-Z's production choices one more time.
Nick James has worked with Ise Lyfe, D.U.S.T. (Zion I Crew), DBK, Delinquent Monastery, Taliah Taylor, D.A.T. of the Attik, and several other aspiring artists out of the Bay. In January of 2005, he worked with New York staple, Apocalipps for a song (the streets loved it). He produced "Fast Than Slow" on Ise Lyfe's re-release of Spread the Word, several songs off his mixtape, "Forward Ever," and the bulk of his new album, "Prince Cometh."
COMING SOON
The John Coltrane Project Nick James is doing with Wesley Mapes will surely be one of his best. It's an instrumental album sampling the best songs from Coltrane. It should be done the Summer 2009 so check that out as well.
