a Madison native, 29 year old bassist Nick Moran has become a staple in the madison music scene. In his over 10 year long professional music career, nick has recorded and performed with Grammy Award winners to MAMA award winners. His key projects include el clan destino(Afro-Cuban hybrid), and dumate(hip hop). nick is also a long time member of madison's favorite Madisalsa(10-piece salsa machine) and appears occasionally with Natty Nation(reggae).
(PERFORMANCE) Bassist Nick Moran has shared the stage with such international artists as Romolo Castro, Jorge Drexlar, Ana Laan, Roberto 'Vizcaino' Guillot, Guillermo Anderson, Greg Landau, Pedro Villagara, Ben Lapidus, most recently Jamaica's Chaka Demus and Pliers. Nick has recently performed with such legends as DJ Kool Herc, Clyde Stubbelfield and Madison jazz legend Ben Sidran.
(RECORDING) In addition to his numerous recordings with his key projects, Nick Moran has recorded with a diverse collection of popular artists including Ana Laan, Grammy Award Winner-Roberto 'Vizcaino' Guillot, Leo Sidran, Clyde Stubbelfield, Joy Dragland, Gerri Dimaggio, and folk artist Anna Laube.
(EDUCATION) Nick Moran has studied under Dr. James Klute of the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra at UWEC. He also studied tumbao with Orlando 'Cachaito' Lopez in Havana, Cuba.
Nick's non-musical education includes a B.A. in Latin American, Caribbean, and Iberian Studies.
(JAZZ) Since high school nick moran has been a key figure in madison's jazz community. He performs regularly in the new breed quintet and with tim whalen in both the tim whalen nonet and the art blakey tribute band. Nick has also appeared with other madison jazzistas such as Ben Sidran, Louka Patenaude, Gerri Dimaggio, Kelly Dehaven and Dave Cooper, Jan Wheaton, Dave Stoler, Paul Hastil, Tony Castenada, Hanah Jon Taylor, Lynnette Margolis, and Harmonious Wail.
