NEW SONGS IN THE MAKING! NICK MURPHY AND SHYLO PROUDLY ANNOUNCE THAT A NEW ALBUM HAS BEEN WRITTEN AND THAT RECORDING AND PRODUCTION IS OFFICIALLY UNDERWAY. COME AND HEAR SOME NEW TUNES WHEN NM & SHYLO GIVE A BIT OF TASTE AT THE LABOUR IN VAIN IN FITZROY, SUNDAY 30th MARCH FROM 4PM ONWARDS....
"Nick Murphy is a talented man. He has recorded an album of stunning harmonic depth, divine orchestration and a gentle humanity. In the tradition of Brian Wilson and Tony Asher's teenage symphonies to God, these songs are sumptuous paeans to the Australian suburbs and domestic love. Live, his band and he pull it off with style and subtlety. At their album launch at the Hopetoun Hotel in Sydney they made that tiny pub sound like a concert hall." TOBY MARTIN, YOUTH GROUP
Nick Murphy has been performing and co-song writing with highly acclaimed and popular Melbourne act, THE ANYONES (known as "THE EVERYONES" in the US), since co-forming the band in 1997. In 2006 Nick recorded and released his debut solo effort, "Breaking The Light", out through Cavelier & Shock. Since then Nick and his amazing band, Shylo, have toured consistently across this wide land with such stellar Oz acts as Youth Group, Dan Kelly and The Alphamales, Even, Ground Components, The Gin Club, Sceamfeeder and Gersey.
"Breaking the Light is... a pop album in the old fashioned sense, a confident collection of impeccably well written, sweetly sung songs that reveal a sensitive and perceptive musicians heart." 4 STARS THE AGE (Melbourne) 14th July 2006
Breaking The Light "was one of the under-heralded gems of last year – a mélange of styles and sounds that somehow meshes into an album that is vibrant, varied and interesting while retaining a sense of cohesion. It is this cohesion that usually goes missing as an artist tries to obtain that elusive title of "indefinable". Wireless Bollinger, Feb 07
As well as receiving critical acclaim and high rotation for their 2 full length albums (the 2nd album released in the US on Tee Pee Records, NYC, of Brian Jonestown Massacre fame), The Anyones toured extensively throughout Australia and the US with international and Australian acts including The Music, Morissey, Sloan, Jet, The Killers, Presidents of the United States, Brad, Dallas Crane, Rocket Science, The Vines, Magic Dirt, Youth Group, Motor Ace & 78 Saab.
"Nick Murphy has taken a more confident, intimate and visionary approach to his first solo album, imbuing his subtle, well-crafted songs with warm psychedelic emotion and gentle country elements... but its Murphys honest talent and sweet voice that really stand out." 3 STARS ROLLING STONE Oct 06.
"Breaking The Light" features some of Melbourne's finest musicians including Ross McLennan (Snout), Dave Ong (Jonie Lightning), Steve Pinkerton (The Anyones), Ben Mason (The Smallgoods), Phillipa Nihill (Underground Lovers), Chris Brodie (Broken Arrows), Jeff Samin (Musket) and explores Nick's psychadelic country lover affair with a telecaster, delay pedal and tremelo box.
