The visionary director, writer and producer who created one of the most notorious theatrical feature horror cult films of all time,
"MURDER-SET-PIECES", shot on location in Las Vegas on 35mm film and distributed in North America and South America by Lionsgate
Films (the “R” rated cut) and in Europe and Asia by Universal
Studios (Uncut)
(the director's cut) and Paramount Pictures (the theatrical cut).
Palumbo has been obsessed with cinema since his early
childhood when his father began taking him to revival house movie theatres. He
later attended film school in Los Angeles.
In 1999, Palumbo formed Fright Flix Productions and became a force in independent film when he wrote, produced and directed his first feature "NUTBAG". In 2002, he followed up with the award winning 35mm short film "SINISTER" shot on location in New York City.
In 2004, Palumbo wrote,
produced and directed the inimitable "MURDER-SET-PIECES", which had a
theatrical run in 2005. Screened for its World Premiere at the
prestigious Sitges International Film Festival in
Barcelona, Spain, "M-S-P"
was the first Un-rated American horror film to hit theaters in 20 years.
On February 28th, 2008 "M-S-P"
was featured on the cover of Variety and The Hollywood Reporter as a result of the
controversy the film has raised in
Europe. To date, the U.K., Ireland, and Norway
have officially banned "MURDER-SET-PIECES".
Palumbo may be known in the film industry for his confrontational films, but in real life he’s an easy going, fun loving guy. His favorite film of all time is Charles Laughton’s "The Night of the Hunter"(1955). He lists directors Roman Polanski and Stanley Kubrick as his biggest influences.
Palumbo is in pre-production on his new film “CORPSE”.
Nick Palumbo currently resides in Los Angeles.
