BIOGRAPHY
Nicola Guazzaloca was born in Bologna (IT) on Sptember 10th, 1975. He began to play self-taught on 1988. He has deepened his own formation during the years, learning a lot from the direct musical activity of practice, researching and projecting with other musicians, and through seminars and workshops, studing and playing among the others with Barre Phillips, Tristan Honsinger, Edoardo Marraffa, William Parker, Anthony Braxton, Roscoe Mitchell, Muhall R. Abrahams, Marc Ribot. He is a co-founder of the Comanda Barabba 5et, which has been active since 2000. In 2005 he was recognised as being among the best composers by the specialized national press, and the Comanda Barabba 5et earned a mention as one of the best italian avant-jazz band. He has composed and performed for cinema, theater and multimedia (prizes Prima Aziz '03, Favolando '04, Interculture Map '05). Actively collaborative in the improvised music and avant-jazz scene, he coordinate the Open Sessions (open improvisation meetings) at the Popular School of Music "Ivan Illich" (which is selfconducted by students and teachers since from 1992), where he's involved in teaching, coordination and conducting laboratoires. He collaborate together with some italian collectives (Bassesfere, Bologna Improvisers, Gnu) dedicated for the developing and diffusion of improvised music.
BIOGRAFIA
Inizia a suonare nel 1988 sviluppando poi un percorso musicale e formativo eterodosso. Ha approfondito la propria preparazione nel corso degli anni frequentando seminari, masterclass e laboratori, studiando con Tristan Honsinger, Edoardo Marraffa, Barre Phillips, William Parker, Anthony Braxton, Roscoe Mitchell, Muhall R. Abrahams, Giancarlo Schiaffini, Marc Ribot, ed imparando molto dalla diretta attività musicale, di pratica, ricerca e progettazione insieme ad altri musicisti. Ha composto e suonato per cinema e teatro (premi Prima Aziz, Interculture Map, Favolando). Attivo negli ambiti della musica di ricerca e dell'avant-jazz, riserva molte energie allo sviluppo di una voce strumentale personale, alla composizione e all'arrangiamento. E' cofondatore del quintetto Comanda Barabba, formato nel 2000. In seguito alla pubblicazione del concerto tenuto per la trasmissione "Battiti" (Rai Radio 3) il quintetto è stato indicato tra le migliori formazioni nel "top jazz" della stampa specializzata, e nel 2007 viene indicato tra i migliori compositori dalla rivista Musica Jazz. Coordina le Open Session (incontri di improvvisazione) presso la Scuola Popolare di Musica "Ivan Illich", dove insegna e partecipa alle attività di coordinamento e progettazione. Collabora con diversi collettivi nell'ambito bolognese (Bassesfere, Bologna Improvisers, Gnu) dedicati allo sviluppo e la diffusione della musica improvvisata.

ciao Nic, belli i baffi! come va? Io sono appena tornata dalla Bulgaria e quindi cammino ancora in 7/8 fischiettando in 15/16, mi divertii parecchio. Anche qui fa un caldo boia ma almeno si va al mare!
