Singer/Songwriter/Keyboardist Nicolette Lagace was born and raised in the Ottawa Valley. Stepping on to the stage for the first time at age 6 as a soloist, and beginning her musical studies at age 9 with Royal Conservatory, she began composing her own music at 12 years young, and would share her innate talent through grade school, summer camps, high school and churches, with whoever would lend an ear, and many did. Now almost 20 years later, her music is a delightful mixture of powerful keyboard sounds, gripping lyrics and heavy rock, complimented by her dominant vocals and versatility of her multi-talented band members.
Influenced by a wide range of female artists including Bjork, Alanis, PJ Harvey, Evanescence, The Cranberries, Annie Lennox and Sinead O’Connor, Nicolette’s musical style and songwriting are still uniquely her own. “Proposal”, a popular track from her debut album “Truth and Time”, takes you right into the heart of her passion for her own marriage with a true, piercing Gothic feel.
All of Nicolette’s songs which she has written are filled with her own keyboard riffs, being the lead instrument in her band rather than the more commonly heard lead guitar, with the band all adaptable to her ever-growing, dynamic waves of songwriting. Lyrically in her own pieces, Nicolette explores and expresses love, loss, peace, depression, victory, humility, spirituality and humanity. She places great importance on the overall message in songs as if they were stories in themselves.
Nicolette’s live shows are known to be stunning to unprepared audiences, with the emotional intensity flowing from song to song. At a recent battle of the bands competition, she silenced the crowd with her opening song and then brought them alive with her second, showing her ability to capture their attention right from the start.
“Rocker, Nicolette Lagace, from small town Ontario, was a refreshing change. The band had great instrumentation and stunning vocals”.
~BODOG Music
“Nicolette sang and played with a raw authenticity that is lost in the wavelengths of all too many modern performers.”
~Ben Wright - Singer/Songwriter
“She delivers a performance unlike others bringing the energy to a feverish pitch leaving the audience wanting more!”
~Christine Booth – Café Ole
"Free"...I like the verses (flute is a nice touch)..."It's me against the world...". That works for me.
Personally, I would leave out the piano intro...maybe just four bars of a cool flute into and then straight into the first verse.
For me, the song would come together better if the syncopated piano parts weren't in the song, and it remained solely that washed out, trippy, vibey track.
Great thing about being Indie is you don't have to write or play the role of any one type of artist. Clearly you are evolving and left behind will be influences and inspirations that no longer play a current role in your creative process. Each new song, for you, is a blank canvas, so be creative and paint whatever picture comes into your mind.
Thank you for that beautiful, beautiful comment. It was just exactly what I needed. Seems almost like it was written just for me. ;) A bit eerie, really. I love you and miss you! **muah!**
Thanks for the barfday wishes. I like myspace too, but i can't convert most of the others. I miss you and soon our time will come. Loving thoughts and warm hugs floating all around you.
LOL! Thanks. And sorry about the confusion... I was being mischievous, but I didn't mean for anyone to actually fall for it, lol! Sooowwrryyyyyyy!
You're right tho, I do really want a baby bump. I don't think a real baby bump is ever gonna happen for me, though. :( I've pretty much given up on that. Oh well, I'm sure there is a reason for that too. I'm just gonna pour whatever energy I'd have spent mothering, on the dogs and training. It IS a passion of mine, after all. It's my music. =o)
And for the record if I were really actually pregnant I'd have spammed you and your MySpace about it until you responded lol. You'd be among the first I'd share the news with!
Hey Nicolette! Really awesome stuff. Keep me posted on shows! I haven't got a chance to listen to your E.P. yet but I will soon and let you know what I think! I'm sure it's awesome
i'm not one to brag, but we did a great job in montreal. we are gelling as a band should and I have a feeling we are gonna be good team and some great music is going to be spilling from our machines. i have hope and spirit once again - it's been a while but i have fire in me. Dave knows what i'm talking about and i really hope he may feel it too.
