"NIC SWALES WITH HIS UNIQUE VOICE AND MELODIES MAKES BOHEMIAN SUMMER A REAL TREASURE"
Dennis Field - Denmark Productions
"VERY STRONG VOCALS AND CREATIVE GUITAR WORK MAKE BOHEMIAN SUMMER A FANTASTIC RECORD" - Rob Jenkins, Music Director at K106.3 fm Sarnia ON.
"NIC SWALES IS ONE OF THOSE SONGWRITERS AND GUITARISTS YOU NEED TO KEEP YOUR EYE ON IN THE NEXT LITTLE WHILE. WITH THE RELEASE OF HIS NEW RECORDING BOHEMIAN SUMMER NIC IS POISED TO TAKE HIS DESERVED RIGHTFUL PLACE ON THE RICH TAPESTRY THAT IS THE CANADIAN INDEPENDENT MUSIC SCENE" - Glenn Meisner, Music Producer CBC Maritimes
"Nic Swales started recording an album in Sarnia, sold his house
and moved to Halifax to complete it and he returned with Bohemian
Summer. You can now hear these songs being played solo all over
Sarnia in many bars and venues, or occasionally, at bigger shows
with the Nic Swales band, Red Giant. Ironically, the album that took
leaving Sarnia to finish, when listened to carefully (or carelessly) and
compared to other albums by local artists, completely personifies,
or rather, musicalizes the town of Sarnia as an extremely accessible,
folk-rock collection of songs with a tap of country and a punch of
bad-ass riffs.
Songs with insane guitar stylings, electric and acoustic, a brute-force
grumbling, full-sounding voice used mostly for sweet, easy-listening
vocals all packed up in a guitar case carried by a drifter traveling the
Sarnia area, though small, expanding on sights, feelings and meeting
people. This is Sarnia as rock music.
The songs are about travelling and changing in the summer heat
with tracks like Down World, Heat Wave, Change My Ways, One
Man Diner and of course Bohemian Summer. But it’s also about
coming back, changed and allowing that to have an affect on your
original place, evident in songs like Remembering You and Home Is
Every Road.
When coming to Sarnia, new residents or visitors should be
handed a free copy of Tony Frangis’ Ghosts Of Sarnia, a copy of
Fix Magazine, (a copy of Street: an artwalkumentary, ahem...), and a
copy of Nic Swales’ Bohemian Summer. It is true Sarnia music and
unflinchingly put, true Sarnia culture.
Visitors should also be given a list of Nic Swales show dates at Ups
N’ Downs and Limbo Lounge where he plays awesome acoustic sets
with Jen Brace." - Ian Alexander for Fix Magazine

The simultaneous recording and release of Nic Swales' acoustic EP SUNNY RIVER and full length rock album BOHEMIAN SUMMER in late 2007 showcase this artist's unique and mature songwriting style. Songs about social change, lost love and determination and conviction are all found in these collections. Nic re-located to Halifax Nova Scotia from small town Sarnia Ontario to record his music, and the excitement of discovering a new city brought a fresh edge to the music along with Dennis Field from Denmark Productions as co-producer. Nic's soulful performances and Dennis's proficient recording and production captured the thrilling energy these songs create. From intimite solo acoustic performances to rockin' out with his band Nic Swales' fan base continues to expand as he burns his own trail through the independent music world.

Hey Nic, Thanks for the info on Artwalk. Looks like I am on the list of performers and I look forward to it. See you there - hope your gigs are going well... Cheers, Barry
How's it goin' these days? I just wanted to drop by and say hi, and let you know that I've been playing your CD quite a bit lately (didn't for awhile because I overplayed it at first)... I'm still quite impressed and thrilled by it every listen! I tend to really turn up the "rockers" such as "Hot Rock Radio Meltdown" and "Bohemian Summer", while the wife's favorites are "Mis Autumn" and "Change"... her brother is really into the bluesier stuff such as "One Man Diner" and "Down World" (which is also one I really dig!)!
Hope all is well... maybe I'll see you at Lackfest if you're going!?
