Not that I watch that much telly... (hello, denial!)
One of the funniest French & Saunders sketches ever:
Books
I love reading. I don't read Dutch novels; I believe that Dutch as a language is very/too limited to express textual beauty. I read and have read LOADS of English novels, mainly because of my education, but also because I like to expand my ever-growing vocabulary.
Currently reading: Jonathan Safran Foer - Everything Is Illuminated
Favorite novels include:
- Ray Bradbury - Fahrenheit 451 - M.E. Braddon - Lady Audley's Secret - Aldous Huxley - Brave New World - Ken Kesey - One Flew over the Cuckoo's Nest - Thomas Kyd - The Spanish Tragedy - Wally Lamb - She's Come Undone - Toni Morrison - Beloved - George Orwell - 1984 - Patrick Süskind - Das Parfum - John Webster - The Duchess of Malfi
Yes, I am aware of the fact that The Spanish Tragedy and The Duchess Of Malfi are plays.
Worst book ever: Samuel Richardson's Pamela. Don't read it. Ever. Seriously.
Runner-up is Olaudah Equiano's The Interesting Narrative. Interesting, my derrière!
Heroes
- Ace of Base
- Bill Bailey
- Diana Damrau
- Johnny Depp
- Dawn French
- Jo Frost
- Phil Jupitus
- K3
- Helen Mirren
- Meryl Streep
About me: I don't suffer from insanity. I enjoy every minute of it.
My name is Nienke and I'm a music addict. So there you have it.
I live in some town in the north-east of The Netherlands. It's almost as boring as watching the 400th rerun of Oprah's Favorite Things in 1344BC, though you don't get anything for free around here. Yes, very sad. We do have some hawt local celebs walking around here besides me, though. Infamous duo Lucas & Gea, for instance (Google or YouTube them if you're like 'huh?'). Goth, I wish I could learn some of their dance moves...
To pass the oceans of free time I currently possess, I play the guitar. Electric. Classically trained. I've been playing for four years now and still I'm crap. Yay me! I also write music and I'm slightly better at that. Not much though, but who cares? Check my music MySpaz for gay disco explosions of the Oprah-kind.
I love British comedy. Absolutely Fabulous is my all-time favorite, closely followed by Little Britain and Bottom. These series have expanded my vocabulary to the size of Oprah's hairdo back in the early nineties. I can't really say this expansion has been beneficial to me as a person because, boy/girl/tranny/alien/whatever, do I know some naughty words... I also like stand-up and improv comedy. Well, unless it's crap, then I don't like it.
I believe that Ace of Base are the pioneers of death metal just because that band is totally gay disco on a stick. They deserve to be reunited on the Oprah show. Yes, I have an Oprah-show obsession. No idea why; if you know the answer, drop me a line and I might send you some cookies. I don't even like her that much, really. I'm insane, can't help it.
I guess I don't have to mention I like to ramble about random things, oder? :P
I blame my education for my borderline shy/wildness, insomnia, and schizophrenic vocabulary expansions. Yes, I confess: I am a student of English.
I've studied English for 5 years and I graduated for my BA in 2007 (16/17th-century revenge plays; John Webster and Thomas Kyd). I graduated for my MA in February 2009 -no idea how because writing that damn thesis (modern English lit; individuality in totalitarian states; Aldous Huxley and Kazuo Ishiguro) was worse than having to listen to Céline Dion songs on a loop for more than two weeks.
I am now looking for a job. Any job. Paid, preferably. I might also ditch that idea and travel to glittery places.
Anyway, enough with the boring crap. Just remember this: what can't be said, can't be said, and it can't be whistled either.
I'm also on Twitter since very recently. I have no idea why because my life is kind of boring at the moment, but whatever... Here goes: @Nienerhausen
Last.fm rocks my socks:
Who I'd like to meet: Interesting people. Non-interesting people. You. Or maybe not... who cares? And Beth Hart to tell her this song effin' rocks my socks off:
Note: if you're looking for free advertising for your crappy bands, don't come a-knockin'. I'm V selective and will only add you if you passed the pink test. Ha!
