Live at The Hastings Beatles Day
The Gig Pig caught Eclipse in action at the Hastings Beatles Day 10.
Their set won the Gig Pig..s Performance of the Day. Performing in the Sussex Hall, word obviously spread as there was standing room only by the end of their set.
Eclipse normally perform as a Pink Floyd tribute band and you could certainly hear this coming through in their music. Whilst this was a Beatles Day and tunes from the fab four were the order of the day, their obvious sound had the Gig Pig wanting to hear them play Pink Floyd - but that will have to wait for another day!
Even an early technical hitch with the lead guitar didn..t seem to faze them. The saxophonist quickly stepped in with an extended solo performance for the introduction, which more than adequately covered whilst things were sorted. With everything working, Nigel Polley stepped up to the mike giving a strong and assured vocal performance throughout. Dave Weeks (Lead Guitar) and Andy McGregor (Keyboard) supported the vocals, even more so once the sound crew turned on Andy..s microphone!
Eclipse..s set included While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Something, You Never Give Me Your Money and Carry That Weight. Whilst the titles may seem a little unfamiliar to non Beatles fans, the tunes weren..t. All were superbly performed by this six strong band. Eclipse displayed a confidence in their performance, without any arrogance.
The crowd grew more enthusiastic with each and every song. As previously stated, the crowd certainly grew in numbers throughout the performance - there was standing room only by the end of their set. Eclipse received a much deserved ovation at the end, by a very, very pleased crowd.
One member of the crowd was heard to say that they should have been on stage in the main auditorium. The Gig Pig couldn..t have agreed more (organisers, please take note for 2010!).
If Eclipse can perform this more unfamiliar (to them) Beatles set so well, then when they are on the more familiar ground of Pink Floyd, it must be a real treat.
Eclipse are due to perform next on Thursday 23rd July at the Icklesham Beer Festival. Following this excellent all round performance, the Gig Pig highly recommends that you catch Eclipse in action.
