About me: Niggology. When you first hear this word, you probably think, what is niggology? But what you should be asking is who the man behind this word, Niggology ? His name is Shawn Eckles, President of The Niggas Corporation.
The idea for Niggology was conceived in the summer of 1999 (the official name for the book came in 2002) when Shawn was on trial and his freedom was at stake; he knew that the jury would take one look at him and put him in the category of a nigga. After all, he was young, black and still in high school. This experience got him writing about the word nigga and he began to interview people on what the word means to them and how they are affected by it.
Born and raised in Troutman, NC, just outside of Charlote, Shawn is taking Niggology across the country. He is selling the Niggology DVD, What is a Nigga?, which is the introduction to a series of DVD’s to come. He is traveling and conducting in depth interviews with black males and others who consider themselves niggas. When you see this DVD you will understand the mission is to attack the word nigga and not hype it up.
Many people use the word casually and don’t have an understanding of why they use it. Shawn believes that words are a way to control and command people and the word nigga has a strong hold on the black community. He wants to address word nigga and start to heal the community especially the young, black community. The youth are being bombarded with all these different images and they need to understand what it all means. By doing this they can decide for themselves who and what they are.
Is Shawn Eckles the first person to address this issue? Absolutely not. But does he have a passion for this issue? We will let the Niggology project speak for itself.
