Coops has something still that will always be his, something he'll take unstained out of this world... his panache Posted at 3:18 PM Jul 25, 2008 view more
About me: Name's David, answer to David, Dave, Coops, Cooper and, when I deserve it, smartass. Over the years I've worked as an umpire, an upholsterer, an exam supervisor and currently as a department store scut monkey.
I just finished a BA (Professional Writing) in 2005 and am now making it up as I go along. I worked the Commonwealth Games in the media pit at Jeff's Shed early 2006, and finally landed a job on a film set after pursuing one since leaving uni. I've been working in the art department on a film, which so far means lifting and cleaning props and lots of digging. Check out the film, Prey, in my top 8 to see why I've been digging.
Ideally in a couple of years I'll be a filmmaker, writing and directing my own material, perhaps producing and 1st A.D.ing other people's work. Almost anything other than working in customer 'service'.
Much to my surprise I'm also doing some stuff for radio. SYN 907 trained me, and at the moment I'm doing movie reviews for The Mess Room (Mondays, 5-6). So far, I've reviewed the Brave One, Strummer: The Future Is Unwritten and Conversation with my Gardener.
My spare time is often spent at the movies. That's possibly my favourite place, a darkened cinema, just me and whatever's rolling onscreen. Of course, it helps if the movie's good, and it's even better when it's free. I am somewhat lucky in that respect, I win all sorts of competitions and contests and get my hands on plenty of free movie passes, and occasionally bigger goodies.
I also love my sport. Cricket, football, soccer, hockey, ice hockey, basketball, some I play, some I try to play, some I watch. I'm not the looniest of fans, however I have an incredibly... ripe I'll say vocabulary which comes into play whenever a bad decision goes against my team. Admittedly I had twelve year olds use those words against me when I was umpiring, so my defence is 'what goes around, comes around'. Go Aussies, Sainters, Aussies, Aussies, Whoevers (I only watch ice hockey, I don't know much about it) and Aussies!
There's a couple of photos of me on here, but not many, I prefer to be behind the camera. Yes, that is the real AFL Premiership cup in one, 2005 in fact (before Sydney dented the crap out of it). I know a guy who knows a guy.
