   About NIGHT HORSE

Ancestors

Tradition lies deep in the music of Los Angeles rock and roll group NIGHT HORSE, which features members of dirge soundscapists Ancestors and the vocal styling of Sam James Velde, formerly of explorative and adventurous rockers Bluebird. NIGHT HORSE bring a saddle bag full of heavy, raw and riffed-out blues-tinged rock steeped in the likes of John Lee Hooker, Taste, Peter Green’s Fleetwood Mac and The Allman Brothers Band without a retro stitch. NIGHT HORSE rein in the past with a firm heel in the present, galloping next to such like-minded contemporaries as Harvey Milk, Down and Priestess. Delivering heavy testimonials harnessed with a twin lead guitar assault, NIGHT HORSE join hands with these brothers in arms.

NIGHT HORSE's debut album 'The Dark Won't Hide You' is comprised of 6 sonic hymns, engineered and mixed by Mathias Schneeberger (Sunn 0))), Obsessed, Gutter Twins). The Dark Won't Hide You is out now on Tee Pee Records in the US & UK.

PRESS:

Classic Rock Magazine:

"If Sonic Youth had been immersed in an ocean of Allman Brothers inspiration, or Soundgarden had been steeped in late 60s Fleetwood Mac, then they might have turned out something like this. Night Horse take traditional blues-rock, spark it up with riotously noisy flashes and drag the rhythms through an early-90s grunge experience. Moreover, they're cohesive, charismatic and compelling." - Malcolm Dome [7 out of 10]

Metal Hammer:

"The throaty and at times full-throttle vocals of former Bluebird man Sam James Velde rage and roar as the band glide casually from freewheel jamming to taut, balls-out riffing without batting an eyelid. As a two-guitar band, they also bring power to bear that's rare for a blues rock outfit, going all the way to 11 for that extra push over the cliff..." - Greg Moffitt [7 out of 10]

Brave Words & Bloody Knuckles:

"From the first few droning notes leading into ass-kicking riffery of this beauty, I knew I was in for a treat. Drawing influence from '70s heavy rock, Night Horse come across as the bastard nephew of Black Sabbath and Mountain on a drinkin' binge with their evil stepchild Kyuss. This is damn near the perfect intersection of power trio-ish classic rock and stoner rock, with a wee bit of southern hard rockin' blues massaged in." - Allan Grusie [9 out of 10]

Decibel Magazine:

"Definitely full-blown denim-wearing '70s-loving freaks who get groovy and fuzzed out in the spirit of Humble Pie and (old) Alice Cooper, Night Horse sometimes gallop right into the '80s with a certain grunge ferocity..." - Shawn Bosler [7 out of 10]

Ground Control (click for full review):

"Everybody that’s partial to rock n’ roll has a memory of the first time that the music crept up and made a devotee out of them... For me, it happened when I first heard “When The Levee Breaks” by Led Zeppelin. I was eight and it hit me so hard I was knocked over... Why do I mention this? Why would you care? Because in all the time since, I’ve listened to a tremendous amount of music and while I’ve gotten excited about some of it, I’ve never again had that levee-breaking epiphany again. Not until I heard “Don’t Need Your Lovin’” from The Dark Won’t Hide You..." - Bill Adams

Giant Robot:

"The emotionally charged beginning gives way to blues-rock as the LA group's debut album progresses, roughly mirroring (and perhaps providing a soundtrack to) the typical evening for adult beverage drinkers."

Rock Sound:

"If you like your rock with a southern swagger then look no further than this lot from Los Angeles... [T]hese boys do growling basslines, fuzzed-up bluesy guitars and wahs-aplenty, topped with some sweet vintage ZZ Top solos - just the soundtrack for a low-slung, cross-country steel-horse adventure, such as in Dennis Hopper's classic Easy Rider." - Ronnie Kerswell [8 out of 10]

Abort Magazine (click for full review):

"In today’s Metal dominated rock music industry sounding more like early KISS, Van Halen and Aerosmith rather than Black Sabbath may not give a band a leg up, but Night Horse is seemingly not a band to stick with the tried and true. Carving their own niche is what trailblazers do and stepping off the much beaten track has never sounded so good." - Grimm Culhane

Chief Mag (click for full review):

"With a sound deeply entrenched in a rich tradition made famous by some of the great blues and hard-rock forefathers, Los Angeles’ Night Horse debut, The Dark Won’t Hide You, is an explosive assault of colossal raw guitars and loud grooved out rock-and-roll requiems..." - Kristopher Yodice

Exclaim! (click for full review):

"The Dark Won't Hide You is vital to hillbillies with distortion pedals everywhere." - Keith Carman
