Nightmare Complex is a concept that was borne during the winter of 2001. Originally from San Diego CA, I had mostly grown up in the punk/grind core/industrial scenes. And throughout the years had become more and more interested in using electronic instruments… predominately out of the frustration I had from trying to find likeminded dependable musicians to work with, and the fact that for me, sonically it was more expressive. So I, “PacMUle” decided to go at things completely on my own. Which was really the best thing for me, because it gave me the freedom to take the concept, and the sound as far as I wanted. A complete audio/visual fuck fest for the mind!
There are two basic constructs, which form the foundation of Nightmare Complex…
1. DREAMS… Throughout life my dreams have had a strong influence on me. Dreams as vivid as true waking life & revelations so intense as to the nature of the self and the world around me that it was too much for me to brush off as “just a bad dream”… Have you ever said or thought something in a dream that chilled you to the bone with its truth? Have you ever had an epiphany encompass you & fill you so completely? A thought from the deepest part of you that could not be ignored… and so much so that it forced you to rethink everything? Maybe… maybe not… But those dreams, and the events that surround them, are what have inspired these songs.
2. SOUND… or the destruction of it…(depends on how you see it) Sound, for me, has always been a far more accurate way of expressing my thoughts and emotions. I have always felt that words hardly reflect or fully encompass the entirety of an idea. Sometimes you just need to feel and experience it, and words don’t always do a thought justice. So you wont find many vocals throughout my music. It’s more like a wall of sound crashing all around you, begging you to swim thru for a while & let the currents pull and caress you to your destination. I think that by minimizing the amount of lyrics it keeps the music open to interpretation, which gives the listener the freedom to have a much more personal experience… gives the music a more connective property to the individual , so to say.
Hence the name Nightmare Complex - A dream/nightmare or thought, brought to physical form and action.
After a few years of distractions and money/equipment crisis’s I started laying the groundwork for what was to become “A Digital Ghetto” around 2003 &2004. And now, after two life sucking careers… constant travel & relocations… and ever present money & equipment challenges, I am very proud to say that I am in the final stages of getting this first album “A Digital Ghetto” finalized and released. 100% D.I.Y. thru my own production label “Stubborn MUle Productions”, by the end of the year. And I hope you all are looking forward to this as much as I am, because it is gonna be sweet!
