About me: “Living the American Nightmare” is a completely independent labor of love film conceived, directed and produced by filmmaker Pawl Bazile.
Being underground, independent and alternative sometimes becomes the only way for an artist to communicate the demons inside themselves. The drive can become bigger than the artist who has it. It can overwhelm the weak and destroy the ill prepared; all in the pursuit to survive being a “rock star” without killing the thing that makes the them whole. "Living the American Nightmare" is a film that will expose the cost of chasing an un-compromised. This project intends to probe deep into those who‘ve flourished in the glory and those who have been run down in the process of the chase.
Myke Hideous’ has struggled in the anonymity of underground art for over 20 year. He has recorded several albums in multiple genres of music, written a book, and has toured the world. His has is a lifetime of insight and experience that cannot be bought.
This film will use Myke’s drama to navigate the central themes of the film. Myke grew up listening to horror-punk legends like the Misfits and in his mid-teens and started his own band called The Empire Hideous at age 21. In a seemly unfathomable opportunity, Myke was chosen to be the 3rd front man for the Misfits, only to learn the hard way on how fallible heroes can be and his ultimate dream unraveled...
Living the American Nightmare is a full-length project, operating with a budget under $20,000, and being shot in High Definition on a Canon XH-A1. The digital film will showcase never before seen footage of live performances of work spanning the last 20 years, some never seen this country. The story will be told with candid interviews of people who have lived “the real thing". Confirmed participants in the film are Myke Hideous, Arturo Vega, Michale Graves, Bobby Steele, Steve Zing, Athan Maroulis, The Bouncing Souls, D.D. Vernie, Merle Allin, Todd Youth, J-Sin Trioxin, J.V. Bastard, Loki, Franche Coma, Mr. Jim, Dr. Chud, Voltaire, Empire Hideous, and many surprise guests. This documentary is scheduled to be completed in 2010 and will premiere on Halloween of that year. It will be shopped to nationally recognized festivals, tour & screened internationally, screened in various theater spaces and entertain offers from distributors for the DVD release.
