   About NIGHTSHIFT
'' THE NAME NIGHTSHIFT HAS BEEN AROUND FOR A WHILE BUT IT NEVER SOUNDED LIKE THIS. YOU SEE THERE WAS ALWAYS AN INGREDIENT MISSING. THEN IN JANURAY 2008 THE TUMBLERS OF THE UNIVERSE ALLIGNED (THANK YOU RIFFS.COM) AND THE GODS OF ROCK'N'ROLL DECIDED THAT A NEW NIGHTSHIFT NEEDED A DRUM SOUND WITH A GUN SHOT SNARE AND A BASS LIKE KRAKATOA EXPLODING. THANK GOD HE AGREED TO JOIN - OTHERWISE TWO OF THE BAND WOULD HAVE BEEN INTERRED ON KIDNAPPING CHARGES. IT WAS A MEETING OF MINDS...AT LAST. ONLY 2 REHEARSALS AND A WEEK LATER WE WERE OUT GIGGING 2 WARM UP GIGS BACK TO BACK. OUR 1ST WAS AT WASHINGTON AND THE 2ND WAS ''THE MARKET TAVERN IN BEDLINGTON, BOTH GREAT VENUES WITH VERY APPRECIATIVE AUDIENCES. I'D ADVISE YOU TO GIVE THESE PUBS A VISIT. THEY KNOW THEIR MUSIC. NIGHTSHIFT HAVE BEEN AROUND FOR THREE YEARS BUT I GUESS YOU CAN SAY WE GOT SERIOUS IN 2008...AND THE BAND PLAYED ON. WE PLAY ''CLASSIC ROCK'' FROM THE GLORY DAYS, SABBATH, OZZY, LED-ZEP, JUDAS PRIEST, PURPLE, HENDRIX, MOTORHEAD,AC/DC, CREAM, JEFF HEALEY, THIN LIZZY AND U.F.O. Thanks for thinking of us John, but I've been at work over the weekend and just read your email.
Hope you're still getting plenty of gigs? Can't wait to see you guys play!
Let me know if ever you're playing the Boro and I'll be there!
Cheers, Bri.

Nice to hear from you again. OK, for my personal taste, I tune the batter head fairly tight and the bottom snare head a 1/3 tighter than the batter, especially with the 42 strands since any uneven areas of tension will cause the whole to flap and buzz. Since the 42 strands take up a wide area, there is a very fine line between too tight creating choking and too loose defeating the sound purpose of that wide a strand. Rule of thumb is baby steps on the snare wire tensioning. You will hear it when it's right. Also, take into account that a brass shell is slightly lower in pitch tone than a steel or alloy shell. I hope this little bit helps. Good luck with this and with the band as well.

HEY JON! THANKS AGAIN FOR SAYING SUCH NICE THINGS! JHB WAS THE BEST, PERIOD! AND YES, HE DID USE THE GRETSCH 42 STRAND SNARES. I THINK BACK THEN ONLY GRETSCH MADE THEM, BUT NOW READILY AND CHEAPLY AVAILABLE. THE FUNNY THING IS HE USED THEM ON HIS 6.5 X 14 LUDWIG, AND MAX ROACH USED THEM ON HIS 4 X 14 PICCOLO SNARE DRUM!

Hey guys, the website looks GREAT!!!
Must get to see you's sometime.
I know whot you mean about gigs being hard to come by. We've been having a few problems ourselves, they're like gold dust. Its so time consuming phoning round too.
Best of luck.
Bri,& The Rogues.
