BIO
Nik Hughes is quickly emerging as one of the most in demand drummers in the Los Angeles area. His passion for drums and percussion have taken him all across the world since his professional career began in 2000. His love for drums can be seen every time he is on stage, and can be heard with every note he plays. His versatility allows him to gig on a multitude of instruments from drum set, congas, Cajon, marimba, bongos, and djembe.
After completing a degree in Music from George Mason University, Nik went on to tour extensively with 33 West. After numerous tours, including five summers on the Vans Warped Tour, and over one thousand shows, the band parted ways. Since then Nik has moved to Los Angeles and currently plays with Andy Grammer (Crimson Group), Ty Taylor (formerly of Rock Star INXS), Kevin Misajon (Maka Records), Krissi Moses, and Mika Cole to name a few. Almost every night he can be seen somewhere playing a variety of percussion instruments. “Coming from the band circuit, I am used to playing every night. If I have a night off it feels weird,” states the constantly busy drummer.
Nik also is very active as both a clinician and educator. He has given clinics across the United States at Guitar Center, George Mason University, and various high schools. He also maintains a private studio of twenty students. On teaching Nik states, “Educating is very fun for me, I enjoy passing on the joy of drumming!” He has also taught “Rhythmic Analysis” course at George Mason University.
Nik is always looking to improve his playing. His love for percussion has taken him all across the world. He toured Europe with youth orchestras in high school. His band 33 West toured all over the United States as well as Canada and the Bahamas. He also studies each year in Cuba with Ballet Folklorico Cutumba de Santiago. His love for music is on display whether on stage or off. Nik Hughes is definitely a drummer destined for big things in the future.
